Battery Life

Everything on except wifi. That's it. Mobile data set to auto. Brightness auto. Bluetooth connected to phone. I've rebooted my GS several times over the week, especially after that last Gear Manager update.

To buy this watch out right from Sprint is about $430 with tax included smh. I'm looking at getting it but I'm also on the fence about staying with Sprint or to move on to another carrier. I live in NYC and been with them for 15 years and a lot of broken promises from Wimax to LTE have been broken. Any recommendations on who I should go with?

The main issues I had with Sprint were the same as yours I put up with them for 9 years, but just couldn't take it anymore. The main thing to consider is service coverage. I'm in Chicago and reception on Sprint was actually pretty good...when there wasn't a problem with the towers, etc. I just switched to TMO and couldn't be happier. I highly recommend them to you, if the service is consistent for you. If I'm not mistaken, TMO will allow you to test drive before you switch. As far as plans, what good is a great price when the service sucks? TMO has excellent plans and great service (including Customer Service)...NO CONTRACTS!

Very impressed so far. I took it off the charger at 7am, I have the clock to always on. Probably got 15-20 alerts today, browsed each for a couple of seconds. Didn't make any phone calls, but it did vibrate for about 4 or 5 calls today. It's 6pm and it's at 71%, that's VERY respectable with the clock always on.

Ive been using it like any pther phone so maybe 90 minutes of talk time a day. I will turn motion and wifi off. I also think it is worth trying to having cellular data and rmote turned off. Ill turn it on only when i dont have the phone with me. IF I REMEMBER!

Battery life depends on phone/3g signal. Some months ago I've been in Ontario-CA when TMO signal is not good. It drained the battery on my note 3 that used to last more than 24 hours to less than 15.

Brightness: Auto (slightly dim)
Screen timeout: 30 seconds

You did a bit better than me. Also off the charger at 11 am. Bluetooth all day, wifi off I had 30% left at 11pm. Still happy with that though as I was using it quite a lot throughout the day.

On a side note mine only seems to charge to 96% overnight. If I put it back on the charger it will charge up to 100% I really don't want to reset it already

In fairness though this is with Bluetooth only with no sim in it. Now I've got a sim on mine it does seem to drain quicker.

After a 12 hour shift it as down to 42%

Took gear off charge at 5.30pm with 97% left and by 23.30pm it's down to 49%

Is this because there's a sim in it? Not like I'm using it..I'm using Bluetooth

Only if you're away from you're phone and it's connected remotely. I've had a sim in mine from the moment I set it up. Mine is set to 'auto on/off' in mobile networks so the sim and cellular network isn't even active unless bluetooth connection is severed.

I noticed something strange: My AT&T Gear S seems to run out of juice faster than the T-Mobile Gear S. Unfortunately I already sent the T-Mobile one back and have no way to do a side by side comparison, but with everything set up the exact same way, the AT&T one is dying on me super quickly sometimes. Last night, it went from 13% to 2% in around 30 mins, even though I had it on power saving AND airplane mode. This can be related to the hardware that I happen to have, and not necessarily to the different firmware, but it may help if we all could mention which version of the Gear we have on this thread.

ATT and no issues like that.

Wow I had mine on power saving mode and I got 58 hrs. that may be a hardware issue.

I use the same and watch drained to the point of turning off in middle of night :( still figuring out best setting for battery life

If we want to compare apples to apples people should start sharing what settings they have enabled. I for one use this watch with the 3G modem always on, as I do not want to miss calls going to the watches number. In doing this I find the battery life to be weak. I can almost get a day out of the watch in this configuration. When tethered to the phone via bluetooth the watch will last for more than a day easily.

Ok, I'm not getting this. I have a Gear S paired to my Galaxy Alpha. The Gear has its own SIM and phone number (though I've only made one or two 'test' calls).

The phone network is set to auto, and WiFi is generally always on. Until this week, I usually kept Bluetooth off. Battery life was good enough to get me through the day.

This week, I left Bluetooth on all the time (mostly because of simple absent-mindedness). Suddenly I'm looking at possibly four to five days of life! Over about 8 hours today (of admittedly light use, but still...) I'm only down by about 7%.

Help me understand this. I thought that more things on would shorten battery life. Why is battery life BETTER with Bluetooth on? I've seen others here say this. I don't get it.

In my experience I found that the biggest factor impacting battery life was the voice answer/reject feature.

I had this feature turned on and battery life was abysmal. Since I turned off this one feature battery has improved remarkably. I can make it through a day with no problems, but with the feature on there was no way I'd get through a day.

I don't know for sure this was the culprit, but in my experience the results are like night and day.

If you are always next to your phone then you will be using Bluetooth, and not cellular for your connection to the phone. In fact I believe the cellular network gets turned off when you are in Bluetooth range.

So basically you are using a lower power method of communicating.

I suspect that being at the edge of BT range with both on might be a battery killer because it is swapping back and forth a lot. But I've done no testing of that.
