Battery life

I run medium to heavy use on a 10 hour works shift. I still have plenty left over for the gym with Bluetooth streaming for about an hour and half. By bedtime I'm usually hovering between 25% and 10% left depending on how heavy I go that day. It fits my needs just fine.

Well show my a car charger that actually charges a phone... every one I’ve ever had just basically maintained the battery

I had to replace my car charger because Google changed something preventing some Quick charge 3.0 chargers from charging Pixels rapidly. My Pixel 3 was like you said, barely just keeping battery level flat.

I just bought this one below and can confirm my phone now says 'charging rapidly' again and it increases charge even when screen is on. It's just as if plugged into a wall outlet.

I like this one because it's super descrete, low profile, and flush inside the car outlet.

I just have gotten the unlucky lottery on car chargers. My wife has an iPhone charger and it works great in the car charging up her XS Max.

I have the P4XL and the battery life have been fine for me, I've been getting through the entire day multiple times with heavy use.

I'm glad to be in a job where I can pretty much charge whenever I want so battery size is pretty irrelevant for me. Otherwise the only phone that would stand a chance would be something with a 6000 battery

7% left on my 4XL, came off the charger at 8am. 6:33 screen on time with forced 90hz. More than good enough for me.

Today on 4 XL, as usual nothing disabled and on adaptive brightness. Mix of WiFi and cellular usage through out the day. Took screenshot before I go to bed.

The hysteria over the Pixel 4's battery life is absolutely ridiculous. I've come from an OG Pixel to the Pixel 4 (regular size) and for me the battery life is fantastic in comparison. Over 4 hours screen on time is easily plenty for me. It's currently 9:27pm and I have exactly 40% battery remaining. I'll be in bed in an hour or so. For people who need more than 5 hours SOT it's time to ask a serious question: do you think you spend too much time on your phone?

So far battery life has been alright for me and my usage. But I did notice this morning that overnight the battery dropped 15% which is pretty steep.

I'll give you a hint. You do.
You're absolutely right, the hysteria is a bit much. I'm not suggesting battery life isn't important because we all have different priorities. If it is then by all means avoid the Pixel 4 like the plague. The thing is it's no different than any other product that doesn't suit our needs and it's not about price either. Sometimes price and perceived value don't make sense but there is obviously a market because no one is forcing anyone to buy Pixels. There are some minor things I don't like about the Pixels but not enough for me to tell people it's a rip off or they shouldn't buy it. I opted not to get one mostly because I'm happy with what I have, but that doesn't make the Pixel a bad thing.

You're right about the screen time thing. I think we spend too much time on our devices. Some will defend it saying they are power users or it's a job requirement and that may be the case. I know I'm guilty of spending more than my share of time and some of it is non productive.

I been told , try not to run your phones battery down under 30%.

To make the battery life last longer.

See people running it down till its about totally drained.

Just to get the battery life that they want.

I can't speak for other people but personally I'm rarely in a situation where I'm not close to charger. So if I'm using my phone normally it's getting charged often while driving or when I'm at my desk in office etc.

I'm just running initial tests to see how much battery we get in case we don't charge during the day. And I also want to help other members who are genuinely interested about the battery life experience from actual Pixel 4 users unlike some others who are here to just you know ...

Another reason I said I liked the heck out of a Samsung S5.

You could buy spare batteries cheap.
And carry them with you.
But we need waterproofing so dauym bad.
And yet phone has to look so pretty so you can show it off.

I'd give up waterproofing for that.
If I dropped my phone in the water..they have new phones at the store.

I'm getting great battery life about the same as my s10 plus. Location on, 90% high brightness, moderate use, when I go to bed I'm at 50% and about 3 hours OST

Then that just means the OG Pixel's battery life was even worse!

Or just that it degraded quite a bit over time (understandably) therefore the 2800mAh in the Pixel 4 still feels like a breath of fresh air.

But to me, 4 hours SOT isn't great.

I just wanted to add my my input. I upgraded from the original Pixel XL. So far the battery life has been decent. Yesterday I intentionally did not charge it and it took my through my entire day from 4:00am(workout) to bedtime at 9:24pm. This included hours of music streaming, screen on navigation, social media, video casting. Just normal usage for me. I of course wish the battery was a bit larger but I think the battery fear for the XL at least is not as large as some claim. That's my opinion.

That's like saying about a car that may have starter issues, "I really liked the Model T, all you had to do is get out and crank it by hand." It also means that rather than address any possible causes for battery life issues, the solution is to just live with it and buy more batteries. That's a band-aid, not a solution.
