Battery loss after replacing

Hi everyone!

I have a Samsung S21+. Last week I noticed a significant drop in battery percentage.

Some additional information, for example at one point it was at 47%, I connected the charger, within a second it went to 0%.

Yesterday, I replaced the battery with a new one. Charged it to 100% but as soon as I disconnected the charging cable it dropped from 100% to 87%, within a second I lost 13%. When I look at the app usage, the one with the most usage is Instagram with 2.1%, the rest have a usage of less than 1%.

Does anyone have any idea or experience with this?

I have experience of battery trouble of that kind, yes, on various phones, and I suspect that most members have.

Assuming that the replacement battery is good - and that cannot always be assumed - there may be failing hardware, or possibly a software problem.

I’d suspect a bad replacement battery, but it’s only a guess.

Have you owned the phone since new?

The new battery is new and original from Samsung. Over the years I have bought many phone parts at that company, they always have good stuff. But yes, you can never be 100% sure. The old battery was more than 4 years old, so it was about time.

I would assume it's a hardware or software problem. The apps I have, have been on there for a long time.
I haven't added any new ones either.

Is there any way to determine what causes the problem?

Welcome to Android Central! Try using an app like AccuBattery to determine the battery health. If it's significantly low (like <85%), then it could be an old degraded battery, a used battery, or a faulty battery.

I downloaded the app. It needs a couple of full charge cycles to have the most accurate readings.
I will post my findings as soon as I have the results of that.

Hey everyone.

According to the AccuBattery app the health of the battery is 80%. I had several full charging cycles.

After our conversation it happened one more time that there was a significant drop of battery which was on Friday. After that, everything seems to be working normal again. Not sure what caused the drop again.

80% battery health isn't great. Rule of thumb is that anything <85% indicates a fairly degraded battery. The "new" battery you got might have been sitting on a shelf for a while, and is therefore already fairly aged.

You said that. Every day you learn something again! I will contact the company where I bought the battery because in their item description it says their batteries have always the newest manufacture date.

Whoops! Sorry for repeating myself. It just wasn't entirely clear to me if the battery seemed to be behaving normally again.
