Battery Question 2

oh man did I really want to post something in this thread. Ok. I absolutely love the s3. I got it 10 days ago and it's been nothing but amazing!
So anyways. About 4 days ago I went to sleep with my s3 to charge overnight. I woke up in the morning with 100% once I unplugged the phone it went to 11% I was very confused so I turned the screen off then back on and it went back to 100% then 10 mins later I was at 75% no heavy use at all with wifi only. 15 mins later at 50% then at 25 mins it died. I took it to Verizon thinking it was a better issue so they gave me a new batter.... The next day it happened again. So I took it back to Verizon and they gave me a new s3. Now yesterday and today my phone won't hold a charge at all. It took 2 hours to go from 60-63% and last night my s3 didn't charge at all. It was steady at 23% for 6 hours with no apps open. I have 3 different cables, chargers and what not. I've used all of them. What is going on? Sorry I'm not posting screen shots. My s3 is dead. But all my apps are closed it says. And I close them all the time. Thanks guys and sorry for the long post.

My phone bounces between excellent battery life and terrible battery life and I haven't really noticed a pattern. At work I get terrible cell reception, so I expect it to drain the battery more. I bounce between 2G (1x) and 4G all day long. As a side note this phone definitely gets worse reception than my DINC.

At home I'm on WiFi..and for example yesterday I got home my battery was roughly 70%. I did a 40 minute run around my neighborhood using runkeeper and pandora the whole time and the battery dropped about 5%, which seems reasonable for GPS and 100% data useage. From 7pm until 11pm with moderate texting and facebooking on wifi the battery dropped 8% or so. Again seems reasonable for a 4 hour period. I went to bed at 11pm with probably 55% remaining and woke up 8 hours later with 15% remaining. 40% over 8 hours while doing nothing? That doesn't seem reasonable. Oddly enough the battery seems better while using the phone, and not in idle.

I have most of the bloatware disabled and I'm aslo in power saving mode. I'm wondering if there isn't a bug in the power save mode when the phone is idle it sucks down the juice.

I checked the battery graph, and while the screen was off while I slept, something awoke the device every 30 minutes or so. Which with all the accounts I have seems about right. But I still don't know why the battery would drain more in idle than in use. That or I'm on crack.

That's the problem, it says it is my screen and cell stand by.

Hmm. I know that same thing happened to me With my phone dying in my pocket for no reason. I found out why though. Whenever the s3 receives a text message the screen will turn on. I hate this about the s3 by The way. Anyways I would always open apps, randomly take screen shots, unlock my phone only because people would text me or I will receive a notification. I just ended up getting a 3rd party sms app then disabling the notifications on the s3 stock sms app and it seemed to work with me. Other than my issue I'm going through now. See if that may help.

A question for the really good battery life people - what do you have your location settings set to?

none are checked. i did have verzon and google checked. sometimes all three. i have all UNchecked.

I actually have all three checked and get really good battery life. came from a thunderbolt and the battery life is one of my favorite things. my husband just went on a trip with my old tbolt and was griping about having to use the external battery charger while in the air.

i also use live wallpapers and let everything sync......handicapping the phone is not something i'm willing to do.

I unplugged my S3 this morning and it was at 100%. By the time I got to work ( 15 miniute drive ) I was down to 94%. I made one phone call for 4 minutes and checked facebook once. I swear this thing dies in my pocket fairly fast but if I am on it the battery is better. Anyone have any input or tips or anything to help get the best out of my battery? thanks
I bet you dollars to donuts that your battery wasn't at 100% even though it said it was. Modern phones never stay at full, they hit full then drop down to something like 96% before starting to charge again. If it did stay charged at 100% your battery would be fried in no time.
Basically don't worry about how fast you burn through the first 10% of battery.

As an update, I am streaming tuned in radio over wifi and my battery is at 69% with 48 min screen time. It's draining quick.

Hey guys, is there anyone out there that has new Galaxy S3 from Verizon and is using Battery Monitor widget? I am having a problem with it that I have been working with the developer on trying to figure out why but I just wanted to see if anyone else is noticing this.

The problem I have been having is on the estimates tab under statistics then usage/current mine shows n/a when off plug and this causes the widget to not be able to show screen on since unplugged and awake since unplugged times. When I plug to charger at night the stats show up and work but in the morning when I unplug those stats go to n/a and they shouldn't. So i'm wondering if Verizon has done something here or its just my phone. Anybody out there seeing this issue please help or let me know thanks a bunch!!!

I also tried better battery stats and nothing shows up during the day either so i think it would be any 3rd party app trying to show stats like what is using battery, screen on time , awake time.

Please help any advice???? I talked to my brother who has the S3 for sprint and he said his acts fine and doesn't have this issue, so I don't know if its Verizon or what????

Try the Gsam battery monitor. That works with my Verizon S3
