Battery since update

Actually since the update my battery life has gotten WORSE. I regularly would get 2-3 DAYS, and now I'm about 1 day 10 hours with 13% left. It seems that something is draining it faster, after the update.

So, not really sure what has happened but since the update BL is clearly worse. Power usage shows Android OS as now being like 30% of battery use? That makes no sense, the SCREEN should basically be highest, then usually cellular or wifi standby, no? Any best way to check what is causing this? Granted, I'm getting about 1.5 days of use, but that is nearly HALF the 3 days it used to be.

Yea,, don't think anyone responded the first time because it's such a preposterous post in my opinion. Complaining something is wrong because your high powered smartphone is getting a day and a half and not 3 days. Just sounds absurd.

thanks for your near useless response. kudos from the peanut gallery notwithstanding.

But I am fairly certain that if you phones battery life went down by 50%, you'd be out on a roof-top with a bullhorn. :-)

I get like 8 hours battery with zero use. I would pay a lot for day and a half battery. Just charge every night and you're fine.

Sounds like something was wrong before the update and the update fixed it.

Going by the response you got from both post over past few days I believe others look at that post and also just laugh. Unless you keep data off and never turn screen on you are not ever getting 3 days. But that's me the peanut with my opinion, right or wrong its what I firmly believe. Take it to sprint store and tell them this,,,, they will laugh.

Just discovered the probable reason for bad battery life. I disabled auto brightness and found that the display brightness was at max. Cranked that back down, and I'll see how it goes.

Better yet, take it to a sprint store and video tape yourself telling them this. Then post the video of their response back here.

I'm with the others, unless you are leaving your phone in a drawer (or something similar) there is just no way possible you can get 3 days battery life out of it.

When I use my EVO 4G LTE in what I called moderate usage (3 hours screen on time, maybe an hour of calls, lots of texts and surfing on WIFI, I get around 20 hours easily. If I use it very sparingly (less than an hour screen time, no calls, some texts, little surfing and FB, and go between wifi and mobile data) I've gotten up to 36 hours.

To say that you can get three days with normal usage is preposterous.

you should check out all the screenshots I posted in the other forum (or not) They are all between 2.5days and 3... I TOO found it odd, and quite incredible for the usage I was doing, the only thing I can report now, is that it is gone.

I have the same problem as Tivoboy. Except I'm not getting the 1.5 days. I get about ten hours, maybe. When I look at my power usage and then everyone else's on here, my Android OS is at 16%. When I touch it, it shows me CPU Total of 31 minutes and Keep Awake about 3 hours, when my phone has only been awake for 4.5 hours almost. I can't see what Android OS is doing to drain so much battery life. Any help?

Yes, mine is the same too. Screen is obviously top 30%, but android OS shows 18% on mine. that is more than it used to be, something must be running. Also, when I check the details of this it says "keep awake" of 1d 2h 35m? of what is currently 1d 6h 11m

I'm also getting this weird and NEW sound. "do doooo" sounds like a car door chime. Never heard it before, not in my sounds list. Not sure where it came from, nothing new installed - other than some updates.

Here was a link to one of my previous magical 3 days battery lifes.

one can see that android OS USED to be 4% of use. Odd.

It could be a result of the less aggressive memory management after the update.

System processes and background apps that were being killed could now be staying active in the background and as a result are using more battery.

Just an fyi. I see where in the power-battery use screen if you touch the item using power it will give you specifics. The graph shows details, the screen tells you exacly how long it was on. Voice calls tell you how long etc. May help some of us figure out what is using their battery. Bob

Well, I think I may have solved MY battery problem. If you're not interested, just stop reading now.

But, for anyone else who may have had an issue. I don't think it was the software update that CUT my battery life in half from prior (2-3 days)

From another thread, someone pointed me to sync services, which I had historically setup but hadn't done anything with in a while. and I didn't THINK anything would be setup without my confirmation, but it appears it was.

There were two new items in there, Skype and Tango which had sync services setup and running in some fashion. I disabled BOTH of them (so, sorry I can't tell you which was the culprit)

Now, I'm back to where I was before, phone is currently at 62% and 23:25 hours. (I did about 45 minutes of calls yesterday and a 1 hour gotomeeting session, plus about 230 emails)

Android OS now shows 9%, so something was running.

And, the stupid "do- dohh" sounds that had appeared is gone. Hasn't sounded in 24 hours at least. I THINK what happened was I USED skype to make a call. It was not running in the background, but I THINK that the sync services may have been checking for online status updates, or doing that sort of stuff the skype may do in the background. This could also be true of Tango, which as well was NOT running, but had somehow enabled sync services and was probably doing something similar.

So, if any of you have either of these two things running in sync services you might try disabling them, that did it for me.

typically, i charge every night while sleeping, so i never get to see just how long the battery will last. however, over the weekend, i was messing with my phone saturday and brought my charging cable to my office. when i went to bed, the cable was still in the office, so i just figured i'd see how the battery lasted. by bedtime sunday night (22:30), after ~30 hours, there was still 85% remaining.

in fairness though, i hardly used the phone for anything, so it was just in standby mode. but still 15% of drain after 30 hours isn't too bad for a smartphone of this capability.

I would say my battery life is back to where it was prior to the update, seems like it was other issues draining the battery.

What is odd though is that items like Good for enterprise, calendar, downloading apps, using the built in email app don't show up here?

What is your screen on time? Please click the Screen entry on that battery Page. Please post screenshot.
