Battery tips for owners who are struggling

Re: Poor battery life s10 plus ever since I got this phone

Can anyone remind me why Samsung went with Exynos when Snapdragon is available. Is Snapdragron not permitted in certain markets? I ask because it seems like year after year I read the the Exynos versions don't have a good of battery life as the Snapdrogon versions. Is there some performance benefit to using Exynos?

Another tip, don't install some ****ty battery monitoring/optimizing app. Most of the time that crappy app is itself the culprit

Would you classify yourself as a light/moderate/heavy user? Do you game?

What do you do most on your phone? I'm trying to figure out if the S10 will work for me battery wise coming from an iPhone X which has been great for me battery wise. S10+ is a little big for me and I don't like the double goggle cutout

I would classify myself as a moderate user overall. More towards the light side on days that I work, since I can't use my phone at work. On my days off maybe moderate-heavy.

I "game" but they aren't very graphics intensive I don't think. I play a few games like Disney Heroes and Family Farm, but I play them daily, multiple times per day. The rest of my day I spend texting and chatting with the stock messaging app and Telegram. I also check and send some email, watch some YouTube videos, browse forums, browse online and read some tech articles, take some pics, etc.

So I would say some days I'm more towards the heavy side to be honest.

I've come from all plus size phones with larger batteries, and this one has held up very well for me. I wanted something more manageable size-wise this time and also didn't want the double camera cutout. I have no regrets and I think you would be happy with it.

Good luck!

I think probably got to do with radio licensing cost, they use snapdragon in regions like US, China where there are still legacy networks like CDMA and Qualcomm licenses them via their snapdragon platform. Probably they are choosing exynos in places where they don't have to rely on CDMA.

And on top of that, also not to rely completely on Qualcomm. They want to have some in-house silicon development in that way they won't be completely relying on Qualcomm which is a risky thing.

I came from the max and even though I'm getting 5-6 hours screen time it's still better than my max

XS is my boss device and this is better than that in terms of battery. My X wasn't as good as my XS. I'm closer to a power user than moderate and it gives me 5-6 SOT. Can't complain as I can top it off so fast if needed.

Thanks so much for your reply, definitely helpful. I'm in the same boat you are. I had plus size phones for a while and since I got the iPhone X, I feel so comfy with that size. I however hate to sacrifice battery life, but it sounds like I'd get around the same as I am with the X if not better.

On your moderate/heavy use weekend days how would you say it performs?

I had a day off yesterday and this was my battery performance. Very good imo and it never really leaves me wanting for more.

Aren't you on the plus size??

Are you on the S10 plus though? I'm talking regular S10
I went with the plus initially, and over the past few days I have been on S10. I haven't done a complete battery test like not charging after wake up and see how long it goes. I plug it in at my car, when I'm driving my home to work and vice versa. I haven't even looked at how much battery left at the end of the day since there was still plenty of juice left (I don't turn on battery percentage). I also have an iPhone Xr and had Xs Max earlier. All I could say is the battery life on S10 isn't worrying me at all compared to those. May be tomorrow or weekend I'll do a test of not charging from morning and going about my day to see how long it'll last. Use the phone for navigation, music steam, watching videos, lots of browsing forums etc.

Knowing you came from the best battery life on an iphone and not worrying about the s10 battery is very comforting to me haha. I had the XR as well and loved it but it just was too clunky and big for me. Seems like you use your ogone the same way I do, but I text all day long ha. Not turning on the battery percentage is definitely smart, especially when it was not on your iphone so you were probably used to that. Its a bittersweet kind of thing Appke removed. I hate they removed it but it actually makes me panic less!

Thx. I guess I'll just feel fortunate that I have the Snapdragron version.

Phone Radio battery drain

Hi folks,

I'm new to these forums and having read through more posts than I remember I think I need some help.

I bought a S10+ a few weeks ago, having had the S5 which served me well. I immediately noticed battery drain as an issue.

My battery drain is currently unacceptable, I charge to 100% and unplug overnight so screen is off - I wake up 7hours or so later to find it has lost 5-6% or even more. The first few days I would only loose 1-2% overnight. I have power save mode with adaptive setting turned on, I have disabled all the non essential and probably some essential apps such google player etc. I have NFC, Bluetooth, Always allow wifi scanning switched off (having read all this good info on these forums). I installed GSAM and never saw any major issues. So I set a custom reference point in GSAM right before I go to bed. And lo and behold, phone radio was taking up the most battery drain at 62%. And most of the time, you can see the signal was very good, so it cant be because of poor signal. Can someone please tell me how it can be managed? Any other ideas on saving battery life would be very much appreciated.

I left my phone on battery overnight and lost 4-6% , before that I usually lost 1-2%. And I find most of the culprit to be from phone radio, can anyone help me how to manage it?

Re: Phone Radio battery drain

You can turn off the active mobile network standby off. Its found in the developer options.
