My Nexus 7 doesn't seem to hold a charge at all. Any ideas what to do differently. i sent it in and they put a new battery on it, but it still goes down real fast, like 3 hours. Is there a way to check? Thanks.

I am guessing here, don't have a Nexus 7, so bear with me. Try long pressing the home button, see if that brings up your running application list.
Can you provide a screenshot of your home screen?
Boy, I don't know how to do a screenshot of my tablet and then put it on the computer. What is the home screen?

Nevermind the screenshot. The homescreen is the screen that you see when you have no apps running, right after you turn it on.

OK, when I first turn it on I have a clock and then the icon I have to press to unlock it (which is crazy I have to even do that) I long press the bottom icon that looks like a house and the only thing that pops up is the word google.
I have put my own shortcuts at the bottom the the screen. Below those are a back arrow button, a house looking button and a double rectangular button.

The double rectangle button. Hit that. That should bring up a list of recent apps, and below that should be a choice of three buttons. A pie chart, the Google logo, and a trash can. Trash can removes all recent apps, Google opens Google Now, and the Pie chart should open the Active applications list. press that button.
On the right side of the screen, swipe down from the top (at the clock). Click on the battery icon.

There are apps which may help such as Gauge Battery and Battery Graph which help monitor battery usage. There is also an app named Battery Doctor which has settings which will kill running apps if battery usage gets too high. All of these have free versions in Play World. Battery Doctor has a little bit of a learning curve to it. Other suggestions on cutting battery drain include limiting the use and frequency setting of notifications and keeping screen brightness at a low level

I got to the page that has the recent apps open, but I have no pie chart, etc. I still have the back arrow, house and double rectangle.
So you don't think anything is wrong with my Nexus? I sent it back once because I didn't think it lasted long = about 3 hours. They sent it back with a new battery and 3 hrs is still all I seem to get, so I am thinking it has to be something I am doing, don't you?
Usually for mine the screen will take up about 75% and I am using a low screen setting. Looks like you are using too much for google+ and google services and maybe you should try to trim them. Also you don't mention what is using the other 28℅ of the battery. Start going down the list. Turn off stuff like NFC and location services when you aren't using them. Also read the part of the manual which gives advice on saving power.

To see what is using your power Go to "Settings". Click on "Battery". Then look what Apps are using power... My Screen is always the highest even when I keep it on Auto Brightness. However you helped me out looking it up since I installed "Yahoo's Weather" App about 60 days ago that I never use and saw it was using 30% of my battery. So I got rid of Yahoo Weather since I have at lease two other weather apps that aren't using anything.
how can I tell what programs are using what amount of battery? Where do I go to find this? I am sure I have things running that I don't know about and that I don't need. I also have a bunch of widgets that I know nothing about and if I need them. Thanks

Is there a way to turn off a program or just shut down a program when you're through with it just like you do on a computer you close the window and then that application is no longer running.
