Battery

It's hard to get good stats on my battery since anytime I am in my car it is charging since it's plugged in for Android Auto, but it is clear to me that the battery on my P6 is outperforming my Note10 easily.

My battery life seems pretty bad l. Did a clean install and have 5g disable. Primarily on data most of the day. Off the charger at 8am this morning and now at 2:20 battery is down to 33% already.

I see a few things potentially going on. Have you trained your adaptive brightness yet? Meaning you change it to your preferred setting when it makes an adjustment that you don't agree with. Adaptive brightness will eat up your battery until it learns your preferences.

Also, it looks like you're leaving Bluetooth on. If you're not using it, leave it off.

If you're on mobile data as stated, you need to limit your apps from doing things in the background. If you don't, that will consume battery. Not to mention the battery draw from using LTE.

Can you download Accubattery? Then charge your phone up and pull it off the charger. Let it sit for 3 hours then post a screenshot of the app. I want to see what your battery consumption is per hour while the phone is in deep sleep mode. Your phone is deep sleeping, but it does look like something might be holding your phone awake for over an hour as well. That could mean a 0.4-1.7% battery draw per hour. Could be an app or something else.

Try to use WiFi when possible. You'll see better battery life. I noticed I can get about 8-10 hours of SOT if I don't even use Tik Tok. Otherwise, I see about 7 hrs of SOT.

I just looked at my battery usage on my 4XL via the phones built in and via GSAM, and my bluetooth, when not being used draws ZERO% in both cases.
GSAM is showing zero since full charge, about two hours ago.
Phone is showing over the past 24 hours also shows zero even though I used BT for about two hours this AM for music while on a walk.

I have noted my ideas before on having to turn off functions of a phone to make it last longer. And I do not see why this should ever be necessary!

Do people turn off mobile data (LTE/4G) when not using it? Would people turn it off when the phone is sitting in your pocket and you are not on a call? Don't think so. Only time I can see turning off mobile data might be if you are in an area where you know you will never get mobile coverage and you are there for a day or longer. And I don't even do that and I camp in places cell service is non-existent, no wi-fi and only a Satellite phone will work for communications with anyone outside of shouting distance. And over a three to four day period, the phone still has power at the end of the trip. Not a great amount, but still power and on the way back home or to another location, I just plug it into the truck and let it charge. (Could plug it into trailer, have enough outlets, just never do.)

As for bluetooth...I have left my BT on for all my past phones ever since I stared using BT many years ago. I want it on all the time so that if someone calls I can pickup a BT unit of some type and turn it on and automatically connect to the phone. I want it on so that when I get in one of my vehicles, it automatically connects; I see no benefit of turning it off.

Same with wi-fi, why turn it off, unless in a place where you will never receive it same as for mobile data. However, I do the same for wi-fi as I do with mobile data, it remains on.

From my understanding when the phone fails to connect to mobile data or wi-fi over a set period of time it shuts down and just checks every so often. (And that coincides with when I visit some place that has wi-fi (store, Doctor's office, etc.) I might be there for anywhere from 1-10 minutes before the phone pops up with a note if I want to connect to wi-fi.

Doing some searching it appears these items pull an extremely small amount of amps when just left in the On position.

I guess, it is each to their own, but I for one, purchase a phone (car, truck, computer, gun, etc.,) to do the job it is designed to do with the components they are made with and within their design parameters. If a phone cannot maintain decent battery usage only by turning off the features on the phone you use; what good is it?

These are my views, my views only. If someone likes to turn features off and on; go for it. I understand, many like to turn things on/off on their phones; many don't.

For me, if the P6P does not hold enough juice to easily last a charge for a full day of my usage after a week; it will be sent back and I will move on to another phone. My 4XL, easily lasts a day of my usage and it is over 1.5 years old.

I will likely turn off 5G. For two reasons, one; not sure if I even have 5G around here; it was only a few months ago I actually gained cell service to my house thanks to a new tower built down the road to the NE and some modifications made to another tower to the SE, but do they have 5G? And my usual LTE connection is about 108 dbm; not all that great but it sure works, and outside the house it is better.

Two, don't need it at home; paid a small fortune to run actual internet cable to my house so no need for 5G.

But how much power does 5G take if not actually connected?

I agree with you. We shouldn't be have to disable Bluetooth and other functions to get some marginal improvements in battery life. I need Bluetooth on because I use a smart watch with my phone. This seems to be an issue with the P6 and Mobile Network Standby draining a lot of battery. My work doesn't have wifi available so that's not really an option. My OnePlus 8 got much better battery then this and that battery was average by most standards.

Not good for the P6. I understand battery usage is different between people; however, the more I see on this subjectd, the more I have a bad feeling coming someday. Hopefully, my feeling does not prove out. I hate the hassle of returning items.

Same here... I absolutely hate returning things for warranty repair. The hassle of getting a company to actually fix your item properly, or in most cases nowadays, getting back a "refurbished" item that you cross your fingers is going to work, which they quite often don't seem to until you've been through a few of them, is way more stressful than most folks need in their life :-\

I swore off of Fitbits for just that reason. But I will say years ago, when times were different, Sony repaired an expensive surround sound system that was barely out of warranty, just for the price of shipping. I was calling them to see how much a repair would cost. It's still working great today ;)

No stress, no hassle, one person/one call and it was handled. Needless to say I buy Sony whenever I can

Sony and google are for sure different companies. I trust Sony, have three of their TVs, their surround sound system two of their best soundbars...google, I use their product but honestly; no trust.

I've had good experience with both Sony and Google. I like products from both companies and continue to buy them. Like most people, I only buy from companies I trust.

Most cell phone companies reserve the right to either repair, replace with a new phone or replace with a refurbished and tested phone. I think if they replace it with a refurbished phone they have to indicate it as such. It happened to me with several different phone companies. The refurbished phones worked just fine and if I hadn't been told I would never have known the phones were refurbished.

Only reason I purchase a google phone is I have found my 4XL has been a great phone. However, google as a company I trust about as much as I do the Federal Gov't at this time. And having retired from the Federal Gov't I say that with a heavy heart.

In reality there is a limited choice of decent phone companies out there. Samsgung, moto and Apple (my opinion). But moto does not update software with security fixes as they should (or did, when I had moto phones), Apple...big change in software and they are not friendly to PC connections like Android. If Apple allowed for integration with windows like Android does, I would not even be here discussing the Pixel 6 pro. I would have a 13 Max.

I will give google credit for the invention of the Android system and even for having their phone manufactured at known good companies such as FOXCONN. And only thing I know about the Pixel 6 series is they are made in China, but by whom? They were supposed to be manufactured in Vietnam, but due to the virus it had to be moved to China due to more restrictions in 'Nam.

But trust google? NOPE.

Totally agree. Even Chrysler replaced my truck engine many years ago, with a reman engine (they eventually bought the truck back).

Could this be right? I downloaded and have been using a new app called Electron. The app shows a significantly higher mAh than what Google advertises. I solicit thoughts from the cognoscenti.Screenshot_20211208-102226.jpg

Could be a surface charge if the reading was taken immediately after removing from the charger. I honestly do not know if lithium poly batteries are subjected to a suface charge; but I do know 6 and 12 volt vehicle batteries sure are. Remove a charger from one and the volts shown can be as high as 7.5 to 15; throw a load on for a minute and it drops to actual voltage.

Just wondering if others are finding that their battery on the 6 Pro has more energy than the 5003 mAh advertised.

I am not going to read a one page synopsis on one person's opinion on battery usage.

If you're walking around with Bluetooth on all day and NFC turned in that's on you. I have some expensive credit cards and charge cards in my phone that I don't want some thief to hack.

I don't have to charge my phone for a few days because I'm usually on WiFi. So why would you even leave LTE on if you're not using it. I'm sitting at home and I don't need GPS on. It's only useful for tracking my daily timeline via Google Maps. I'll take my 8-10 of SOT a day.

I go to the gym and use my Sony XM-4s with my phone. Bluetooth is using battery during that time.

I'm on the 6 Pro and I'd say my battery life is good, but not really great.

I get about 5 hours screen time on wifi, but less than that when I'm on 5G. Wish it had just an extra hour or two of screen time. Hopefully the December update will fix some gremlins in the phone and improve battery.

If you are having battery issues on 5G that's one of two problems. It's either the phone is having to use more battery due to poor signal quality. 5G isn't faster than LTE where I live in a pretty well known Texas city. So 5G is slower and will consume more battery when using it normally. Also depends on what apps YOU allow to run in the background that will consume even more battery.

Notifications matter as well in my opinion. Most of my notifications are turned OFF because I don't need reminders to tell me to pay a credit card bill from 3 different companies because they come via email. And I turn off some Google notifications too that are unnecessary. I don't need to know my apps were just updated from the Play Store. But that's just me.

It's taken five weeks or so, battery SOT appears to be slowly increasing to seven/eight hours... when running LTE, disabling 5G, when at home/office, pushing Wifi high speed. The times when the battery drains quickly is when I'm on Verizon LTE, even with solid connection speeds. Mobile Network Standby is very active! At night, on Wifi, IDLE is very high and WAKELOCK kicks in. Google support has responded to me a number of times, including top tier rep. They will not answer my questions about the cause of the battery drains. They did however ask me to send them the phone for testing, even though they have the phone logs and stats. My gut feeling... The drains are software related, possibly dealing with Android 12. Would like to hear what Google has to say and if the 'fix' is in the upcoming updates. Phone running well save for the battery issues. Haven't taken it as yet to the rural areas out here in the West to see how the reception is... away from the cities. Call quality, excellent. Display and brightness, fine.

If you're having wakelock issues it's not a Google issue. It's something on your phone that's causing the problem. You could have transferred a bug over from your previous phone. If you don't believe me. Do a factory reset and run the preloaded Google apps only. The phone will deep sleep just fine. The phone won't have these issues if you potential start fresh from factory reset then add your apps. As you add apps really look out for the social media ones. They could be the culprit. Or it could be a buggy app you enjoy using.
