Battery

does the auto wifi app help and does it slow done the phone at all running

I'm not sure as I don't use Auto Wifi. I can tell you though that I don't see much need for an app like that, though. I haven't found that having WiFi enabled when you're not using it has any negligible affect on battery life.

i must have a dud battery... i drop about 25% an hour.

If you're dropping that much in that amount of time, either your battery is bad, or something is majorly wrong with your phone. If it's not a dud battery and your phone is actually using the battery at that rate, your phone should be physically warm/hot to the touch.

I think my screen would have to be on continuously to drop my battery that fast. Or maybe running Pandora from 3g but I have a lot of stuff running and have never seen anything close to that. What does your battery monitor show is using all that power? Something should be a clear leader on the chart. I had trouble with a background app killing my battery but it was easy to find.

Try this:
Charge your phone for 5 minutes or so then take it off the charger.
Let it sit for an hour or two WITHOUT USING IT or waking the screen.
Go to settings>>about phone>>battery use and you will see the problem at the top of the list. It should most likely be "cell standby" if it is working correctly.

That's about what I'm getting too, but I suspect that I didn't use proper battery maintenance when I got it. Rather than letting it charge fully first, I dove right in and abused it until the battery was dead. Since I'm still in my 30 days, I went to Best Buy tonight and they swapped it out for free. I'm charging now, and when it's done I'm going to disable my task killer and juice defender to see if I have better results.

Oh, I still haven't mentioned in the forums that I'm a new Fascinate user. Happy to be here! I love it!

it just constantly drops...

when it was new i fully charged it before ever using it.
verizon said i just use my phone too much and they wont warranty it. i unrooted it and went completely back to stock ,deleted everything... i went back to being rooted. still drains just as fast. i DONT want the extended battery because whats the point of buying a thin phone.

im pretty much OVER this phone except i love the screen!

I just did an experiment and disable the google location services today. I was dropping about 2% per hour with it turned on. Today I was off the charger for 10 and 1/2 hours. I sent several e-mails and made 5 minutes of phone calls. I was still at 91% that is less than 1% per hour. I am running a battery monitor and weather bug that updates every 1/2 hour. My GPS was also on all day. I did disable my wifi and bluetooth but the wifi barely makes a difference.

My battery monitor widget estimated I had 108 hours remaining with these settings. That's awesome!

It seems as though music playback is a major kill. 20% in an hour and a half? That's crazy. Im buying a larger battery next paycheck.

If you have WiFi at home you want to use that instead of 3G data. I use Auto Wifi Toggle to monitor my wifi connection and turn it on/off. I also suggest rooting your phone and removing the crap Verizon places on your phone. I run a custom rom and kernel that has already been optimized to save battery.

whats a good rom and kernel to get good battery life?

Adryn's undervolted test kernels get outstanding battery life for me, my rom is super clean, which probably helps too

Sent from my (adyrn test 5 undervolted) super cleaned DL09 fascinate using tapatalk

what about the 12/30 and does the undervolt one speed up or slow down the phone. i too have super clean .4 installed and superdark theme. what else can i do to improve phone speed and battery life

I know it's a bit after the fact, but so every one knows bump charging is bad for your battery, and over time will do serious damage to your battery. It should work with any Li-ion battery just based on the technology, but save it for long days away from the charger.

If you use an after market launcher, load up your stock launcher, remove all of the self-updating widgets, switch to your other launcher, and close the stock one with a task manager or settings>applications>manage applications>twlauncher>force stop.

If you've followed the other sugestions, and haven't seen any improvement start uninstalling apps and see what happens. Try switching one widget for a comparable one, etc. That and watch for poor reception anywhere you spend lots of time. Being in low service areas is really hard on battery over long periods.

whats bump charging?

whats bump charging?

Bump Charging is when you plug the phone back into the charger after it has been fully charged until it has "completed" charging a second time. Phones are designed to allow the battery to discharge slightly (usually 1 or 2%) after reaching a full charge in order to prevent the battery overcharging.

Bump charging goes like this more specifically. Phone on, charge to full, unplug, turn off, charge to full, turn on, recharge. It's basically tricking the battery into over charging itself by power cycling between charging. When you boot up it loads all of your apps over again, starts up your launcher, runs all of your network connections and OTA data querys. All of this sucks serious juice. I'm fighting battery problems right now, but when I was stock just booting up could consume between 5 and 10% of my battery by the time everything loaded. Think of it like turning everything on your phone on full blast for the 2 minutes or so it takes to fully boot and load everything.

i know the live wallpaper takes some battery but seriously thats all i have
