Curious, under the scuffs and scrapes, does it still have a leather look/feel? like the top is a fine smooth layer of coating that once gone would like like aged leather or rough leather?

No pictures because everyone knows what a new black leather one looks like. Mines perfect after about a months use (bought unlocked international version). The pebbled nature of it really hides any imperfections and it still feels pretty good. I really like the Moto X leather better because it's softer and feels better in the hand, but it shows marks quite a bit more readily.

I still hate the stitching on the back since it won't lay flat on a table now. Ugh. But it's a small price to pay I guess.

I've had mine since the day it was released on t-mobile. Has some minor marks and slight wear on he bottom corners. I'm very pleased with how it is holding up. uploadfromtaptalk1436201039229.jpguploadfromtaptalk1436201056091.jpg

Leather is supposed to wear. I have a 40 year old Coach Brief case that I have carried and tossed around all these years. It has Character and when maintained still looks good.

Of course on a phone that will be obsolete in less than two years, it doesn't really matter.

We all know that leather will rip and scratch and will look cool with aging, like on the back of a Moto X... But, the G4's looks cheap!

I got the black one and I scratched it a little bit on the bottom right.

It's impossible to see, however, and that's why I like it. It seems to hold up better and any sort of battle damage seems to be nearly impossible to notice.

Sorry for the truly awful picture quality. It was taken by my old M7, which has the worst camera I've ever used on a phone because of the purple tint.

I ordered the red leather back via the July promo. I will be curious to see how it holds up, having not seen much about the red.

I would have preferred black or brown, but they are not promo choices.

From the looks of it, looks like the red is the same type leather as the brown.

I've had the T-Mobile brown since 28 May. There is some wear around all four corners, but the back has held up fine. I keep it in my front jeans pocket most of the time when I'm not using it. As I noted in the thread that linked here, I treat it with neutral shoe wax every other day.20150706_102143.jpg20150706_102220.jpg

Mine is holding up really well. I've been using it since June 1st and the corner in the closeup photo is the only part showing any wear so far. You really have to be looking to notice it, so I'm not too worried. It spends most of it's days either in my pocket or my hand.

Been on mine for about a month. I do use a clear plastic case when I go to the beach or some other "outdoorsy" kind of thing, otherwise no case.

Is it black is holding up better or better at hiding the wear than the brown?

I would say both, have not seen any corner wear on the black. And like mine (black) that has been damaged you can't really see.

I truly believe this is a relative issue; mine still looks like the day I bought it....so does my 2007 vehicle and my 10 year old Rolex, motorcycle, laptop, tablet....etc. Every phone that I can remember (and there has been a lot) I have sold on Swappa as "mint".
My point, we all take care of our stuff differently. Yes, the quality of the material matters but I believe how you maintain it matters just as much.

Normal wear and tear on edges but other it's holding up good I do use a clear cheap case at work then take it off when not at work

I've had the G4 for a few weeks longer then most, but my leather is already starting to look really rough. It's not a huge deal because I can just replace the backplate, but am I alone here? Sound off if your leather G4 has already started to show signs of wear.

That's pretty rough, Russ. Do you carry it in your pocket? How'd you get so much wear in just a few months.
