BB-8 / Google Play Issue

Hi everybody,

I have a Verizon Galaxy S5 and am wondering if anyone out there is experiencing this issue. I have a BB-8 and when downloading the app, the installed size is 57mb, about half the 103mb that it should be. For whatever reason, even though I watch the download status bar say I'm downloading 103mb but only the opening bit gets installed. This results in the ability to launch the app but when I attempt to connect to my BB-8 it will say "No BB-8 Detected". I have done every trouble shooting process that I can find, have been in touch for about a month now with Sphero support and they are baffled at this point as they can't seem to recreate the problem. My brother has the same phone but a different carrier and he has no problems. I had a S5 thru Credo (they use Sprint) and never had a problem with the app installing or working. I can't help but think this is a Verizon-specific issue...

At this point, I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem or if I'm just super extra special.

Thanks

Re: BB-8 / Google Play Issue

Two choices... (actually, there's more, but one of these should work)

1) Download the app from APKPure and sideload it.

2) Have your brother install Appsaver, back up the BB-8 app to his SD. Take his SD, transfer the app to your phone, and install it.

If you read the forum, you'll see a lot of people having problems with Playstore recently (again!). Perhaps you just picked a wrong time to download.

Oh, almost forgot choice #3... Mail the BB-8 to me since your phone can't currently run him! ;-)

Re: BB-8 / Google Play Issue

What do ya mean by sideload?

As for #3 I have a second, mint in box BB-8 I'll sell you for a stupidly marked up price :)

Re: BB-8 / Google Play Issue

Sideload means you download the apk to your phone and install it (outside of Playstore).

When you do it this way, your phone will prompt you that the installation is blocked for security reasons... you'll see a pop up. On the pop up window, you need to press on "Settings" and you'll be taken to the security page where you need to put a check mark in "Unknown sources". Once you do, another pop up window will show up where you need to confirm you will allow the installation, then you'll be taken to the app install screen where you choose Cancel or Install. Once you install, the app will run like any other app you have on your phone.

I back up all my apps to SD so that if I ever need to factory reset, I don't have to download them all over again from Playstore... much quicker.

As for #3... You can keep your stupidly marked up BB-8! LOL! I went to Amazon and bought one... for my daughter's birthday.
