So like many others i am making the switch from the blackberry world into the adroid world.. my only concern that i am trying to figure out before my droid arrives tomorrow is how to switch my contacts over... i have 500+ contacts and i FOR SURE do not want to manually put them all back in. Since backup assistant isnt available on either phone how do i switch all my contacts over easily? i have the blackberry tour right now if that helps out

thanks

If you don't have a Gmail acount, sign up for one.
Download Google Sync from m.google.com/sync on your Tour
Sync all your contact to your gmail account with Google Sync
When you set up your Droid, you just enter your Gmail acct and passwrod and it will pull down all your contacts in seconds.

On mine as a back up to having the store do it. I went into contacts in outlook and did a export to a csv file. then uploaded the CSV file to my google account. When they activated my Droid, it brought in all my contacts. I did not need to have the store do it.

I second this. I used Google Sync and it was completely painless. This will also give you an online back-up (in your new google account) which you can export from should you ever want to add these contacts to any other device.

What computer are you running?

If you're on a Mac.. what I did was export all the vCards (into one file) via Address Book, and I imported that into my Google contacts. So when my Droid arrives later today, I'll easily just sync via Google to the phone and have all of my contacts good to go.

Google sync worked awesome and was very quick. I don't know if it is everywhere but my local corp store does not have that machine to transfer numbers anymore...the rep said they took it away.

I used google sync on my Storm as well so when i put the gmail account on the Droid all the contacts came in almost instantly

wow this forum is pretty nice.. really fast replies.. but i just installed the google sync on my tour and ran it.. i keep getting an error message that says to log out and log back in to get the complete sync... but on my gmail account all of my contacts are uploaded.. so i am not to worried about it. thanks for the quick help!!

Yup this forum is very helpful. There's a thread somewhere with our gtalk names as well and everyone seems very approachable.

I had been using google sync, been a gmail user for long time. Let me say this I wasn't out the door and my droid was done downloading my contacts, calendar, and was majorly setup. Awesoe fast phone

When you start up the Droid for the first time its going to want to set its self up with your Gmail account. Make sure that the one your contacts is on is the one you will want to use. This will make for less headaches if you wanna switch later.
