BB to DX, What's missing on the DX

I didn't really want to start a new thread, but although I see a few threads on Blackberry to Droid X, I haven't found one that talks about what's missing on the DX that we wish we had from our BB days. If anyone has found an app that does some of these things, please sing out and save a brother some time looking. I'll start:

1. Email to calendar or task event. I had several programs that allowed me to look at an email and then push it to a calendar or task event copying the email into the notes section and the event title was the email subject.

Ok, that's my big one, the rest are minor and really when I started this thread I thought I'd have a long list, but didn't. I've been able to port just about all the function I had with a BB to the DX and in almost every case into a better experience. Others have said it, they're not going back well I won't say that since I try not to say never, but there will have to be a HUGE change in BB before I do go back and I'm just not seeing any indications that's happening.

So list up your one or two items that you've not be able to get on the DX that you had on the BB and let's see if we can help each other out an find the apps or buttons to push that gets us the function we miss about the BB. I'm sure it's out there, we just haven't found it yet and hopefully this thread will consolidate our efforts and make it easier for us to find the answers.

Let's Roll!

I switching from a Storm2 to Droid X. I love my Droid X and it does what my Storm2 did (and more) only BETTER! Biff

I switched from a Blackberry Bold and am living my Droid X so far. I am getting used to the large screen. I haven't been to work yet so I don't know how my Exchange will do quire yet so we'll see.

I really miss BerryBuzz. Miss the different customizable LED colors.

Only thing I miss is BBM...that's it. Everything else makes me happy I switched.

I missed it also, until I bit the bullet and switched to Gtalk ... except for having to convince a few folks to sign up for a Google email account, I'm no longer missing BBM.

None of those other apps come close to berry buzz. You could customize all LED notifications for any event on the phone. I am still waiting for someone to come out with a be all end all led notification app like berry buzz so i dont need 5 to equal the same features berry buzz had and still some are left out.

I agree. I also don't want 3-4 apps to do what Berrybuzz could do by itself.

I just moved to the X from the Tour and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the whole thing. Feel free to post your comments on what switching from a BB was/is like. As I think of more, I might post more things. I got it on launch day, so it is still new to me too.

Things I miss:
*BerryBuzz - I loved being able to have different color indicators for different things. It was awesome to be able to know what was incoming without turning the screen on.
*BlackBerry Messenger - This is a given.
*Sound Profiles - I really miss having so many different tones. One ring for SMS, one for MMS, one for BBM, one for Facebook, etc.
*The bundled games - I know this is a little silly, but I loved the games that came with the BB. BrickBreaker, Texas Hold'em, Sudoku, Word Mole

Things I love having now:
*The browser is about 100 times better. Websites load a lot faster. Full pages are loaded.
*The entire UI is just amazing. Everything is so much smoother, I love having different screens for things. The widget system is really cool.
*Change logs in OS updates make me smile. I like actually knowing why I should upgrade.
*Memory memory memory. I feel so overwhelmed! I have 8GB of application space. That is 32x what I had on the Tour.
*Swype. This application is awesome and it makes typing entertaining for me.
*No more battery pulls.
*I don't have to reset my phone to do install/uninstall of applications.

Things that annoy me now:
*I don't like having to sift through the market. The good thing about BB was that there was not a lot of applications. I went to find a widget for an agenda view, and I found like 200 results. I feel like it was way easier on BB.

Tips for making the switch:
*If you use gmail, I highly recommend using Google Sync to get your contacts and calendar over to Google. It makes the move easy.
*I desperately missed the native tasks and memopad applications in BlackBerry. I found Astrid Tasks and Note Everything to fill those spaces.

You can have a custom sound for practically every event on your Droid X. They need to be set from within each app though. I do need to find a good sound profile app so I can set "bedtime mode" like I had on my Storm 1.

There's plenty of free apps (and some are pretty damn good) to satisfy your BrickBreaker/Hold'em/Sudoku/Word Mole needs.

BBM, I definitely miss, but not as much as I thought I would. Custom LEDs would be nice. Hopefully someone will make an all-in-one app to cover it.

LOL. Never heard of someone complaining about having too many choices. Try searching on AppBrain Android Market - find the best Android Apps and Games. They filter the apps a little better than the Android Market does.

Simple BBM, Profiles I went thru BBM withdrawal already, I use quick profiles and copied all the profile my wife had on her 9650.

As far as berrybuzz is concerned tho I am not forsure that the LED light on the dx can blink in that many different colors as bb does.

I guess that is why an app hasnt been made that does that. I am more sure the dinc light is even more restricted as to the colors it can blink.

I think you can find free sounds for different notifications on some websites (zedge is one)

There are similar apps that are kinda like bbm in the market I think too, BBM(hudge memory hog) froze up my berry so much that that became a useless thing on it anyhoo

Obviously new to these forums (as you can see by my post count), but been very active on Crackberry now for years, including theme development. Anyways, my wife got her DX last week, first smartphone for her. I have a Storm2, debated between the two, nothing new from RIM so DX it was for her.

I guess I was spoiled, or took for granted, the type of apps available for Storm2. She complains about missing calls, no reminder. I thought I have BerryBuzz, has to be other similar apps for Android platform. I've looked at various apps "Missed Calls", "Missed Reminders", nothing really solid like BerryBuzz. Maybe a bunch of apps can all do the type of function that BerryBuzz does, dunno, still have to look.

I also found that a simple "bedtime" mode for DX is impossible to find. It's so simple on my Storm2, can it really be this hard to DX? Ideas??

Many themes on my Storm2 include a "today" feature, showing calendar, SMS and unread messages all on the homescreen, like this:

A notification would appear for anything new and you could also touch the screen to view message/call info or launch the associated app. Again, I thought something so basic should be available for DX. I've looked at several Android apps, "Executive Assistant", "Agenda" and others, nothing really filled the bill. Anyone have a suggestion as to what provides a similar function?

Also had BerryWeather, a great weather app for Storm2, looked at a lot of Weather Apps for DX and think I finally found one app (paid). What are recommendations on good weather apps to look for?

This isn't meant to be a slam on DX, I think it's a great device. Just looking for suggestions to fill in voids from what I'm used to having on my Storm2.

If sound profiles is what you want, download audioguru from the Market. Very similar to the profiles in the Sound "application" in BB... I came from BB S2 as well.

But it does not allow separate tones for email from contact and call tones by contact or sms by contact.
