With that BS a couple weeks ago, my interest has been lost, not gonna even bother- considering some of my contacts JUST recently moved away from BB (them damn iPhones), so there's not many BB contacts left. 98% of the time I communicate via SMS anyways, other 2% is Skype.

Do some research into the benefits, you'll figure it out. Sorta like getting a new phone...... Do your research first. BBM is a fantastic communication application that transcends boundaries.

WHAT about BBM is making people want it? What does it do that no other Texting app does? I really just don't get why it's such a big deal.

Rather than being a smart ***, why don't you ANSWER the question with why you LIKE it.

I have done my research and I don't see any advantage to it over Hangouts or any number of other messaging apps. Hangouts works cross platform, even with computers, BBM does not. Hangouts works over data. Hangouts has video/BBM does not. Hangouts has group chat, Hangouts has group VIDEO chat/BBM does not, Hangouts is real time. Nothing any better that I can see about it over Hangouts or any other IM app out there. I think it's just a nostalgic throwback to all the people that were Blackberry customers that had to leave to get better phones but they miss their precious BBM. From what I've seen of reviews, the only thing it does that Hangouts or other messaging apps don't is kill your battery and run up your data charge (if you're tiered) because it's constantly drawing data.

BBM does have group chat and it also has permanent groups with calendsr/list/photo album sharing and syncing. It will have voice and video chat soon. He's right. You didn't do your research.

I didn't say it didn't have group chat. That's probably the one thing it was supposed to have done better than other chat clients. I said it didn't have GROUP VIDEO chat or any VIDEO chat for that matter. Read it again. If "soon" means the same thing it's meant for BBM being ported, considering the first time I heard that BBM was coming "soon" was 5 years ago then I hope people aren't counting on it. There's nothing new or ground-breaking or even done better than the competition that BBM brings to the platform other than the familiarity a lot of Blackberry refugees miss from their old platform.

The group chats thing was inferred by the way you wrote it. If that wasn't your intention then fine, but that's how it came across.

It may not have voice or video chat now but it will and if you've ever used it on a BB you'd know it beats the hell out of Skype or Hangouts for clarity and reliability any day. That may be coming soon and it's a relatively moot point but a lot of people are excited about the upcoming features and so it is a factor.

The message receipt system is far more advanced than anything else despite its age. I find it quite amusing that no competitor has been able to beat it after all this time.

As for Hangouts, you're just grasping. Its integration and reliance on Google+ is what consigns it to irrelevance. Only Google die hards use Hangouts. Get over it.

I find it amusing that someone is calling Google's technology irrelevant while using a Nexus product, designed to utilize said Google platform, to discuss the "superiority" of a system from a company that is all but dead and hoping that they will be saved by releasing the one decent product they have left, for free to that platform.

I see zero benefit.. I have to have everyone using it to talk.. When I could just text them and not have them have to download and run the app.

I think it is awesome that we have the option to choose. I read here that several people see no use or advantage to BBM. So the best news is they don't have to use it.
I happen to find the notification system (D & R) to be all the reason I need to use this app. As I push the 250 end-users I support to use it when requesting my support, I'm sure they will learn to appreciate it in the long run. Once it handles SMS it will be my only texting app.

Oh if it did SMS I could see a use for sure.. It's just me saying no use for me at the moment. You can force your users.. My friends would laugh at me and tell me to go away. :p

I can understand, my wife and kids tend to tell me to just go away also, lol. I'm still pushing them though. It's very nice to get a read confirmation when texting one of my 3 teenagers. Also very helpful when cell signal is low or none and you can find a wifi connection.
