I was playing around with the kit before dinner, and I came up with this. The system for making skins is pretty easy.

I noticed that this skin goes pretty well with the app drawer tab. Sadly, that'll be going away in the near future. Oh well!

Did you set the transparency for the widget yourself or did BW set it for you? I ask because if the former I will have to set transparencies for each layer and re-save as png so that I get it how I want it to look once installed.

I'm not sure. If someone gets a beta or tama comes online, we'll get an answer. I made that mockup myself, that's not a screenshot of the skin running on BW.
But I'm assuming we set the transparency, since the template provided was an irregular shape. Fingers crossed!

Ok. I got the beta on my Droid now, and I'm testing out my skins. I can answer some questions we had.

Transparency is supported, and you control it by adjusting the amount of transparency in your .png images.
I'd give you a screenshot of my skin running on my phone, but I haven't rooted my phone.
It's pretty cool.

I would also love to get my hands on the beta so I can test things live.

Of course I will be bound by NDAs regarding anything that he sends me. Naturally.

I will have to get instructions on how to turn a theme into an apk file. I have eclipse installed with the current set of Android SDK linked. Just need clear written instructions. Will I need to make them png.9 files? That kind of information would be most useful.

I don't know if we need to turn the .png's into a .apk file. We might just have to put the images in a folder like we do right now.

For Beta testing it might well be stick a folder on your SD card and point the Beta at it, but when it goes to market the themes will come as apk like any others out there.

I never even thought about selling this, just thought bout providing it free but hmmm...

And also, just got done with my theme. Just now sent it to him. Hopefully he replies soon.

Also, to those who are thinking about trying their hand at skins, ones like this:

Do not work. At ALL. This is a good example of what not to do in a number of ways.
A) BW stretches skins to make them work. So exact pixel work like this doesn't line up, and looks a little rectangular.
B) Complete transparency makes a terrible background.

This does, however, make a great template for fitting skins into.

The first few I will sell for free on the Android Market while I get the skills together to make really good themes. Then I shall sell them for chump change and make me some money, the weight of sales making me the profit that I desire.
