Before you get the Atrix....

Speaking of which, yeah you are limited to googles android market, but if you don't plan on doing any sideloading (like me) its fine.

you can use the Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine (non-rooted) or GladiAtrix Enabler (rooted)

Coming from a long line of android devices, including (Droid, Inc. , Galaxy s, inspire , and Atrix) I have found the Atrix to be the worst of the bunch.

This thing is laggy. (now before the Tegra fanboys come out and cry and scream and say its the fastest phone ever, let me explain)

I feel Motoblur kills this phone. Also, The HTC devices are proven to have a more responsive touchscreen ( YouTube - HTC Desire HD Multitouch Test) Try doing this on the Atrix.

Until the Atrix can get loaded with stock android it will be laggy.

(Alright fanboys, your turn....)

I'm not a fan of Blur. In fact, I hate it.

There's a reason why I rooted and killed the Motoblur Home and other bloatware on day 1 that I got my phone. (Among other reasons) With LP+ my Atrix is a beast. =)

Thanks attweco.

I agree that change is good. My smartphone is basically my PDA. I began with a Sony Clie years ago, then went to a Palm PDA when Sony discontinued the Clie, but all along I had a cell phone on the side. When smartphones became common I decided to merge the PDA and phone (I'm not a big phone talker so use the smartphone primarily as a PDA, camera, games, etc.). I'll most likely purchase the Atrix but will wait a while. I understand there may be an update and I do want to see what happens when the so-called 4G network is launched. I've never returned a phone and prefer to make the best choice possible and then stick with it. I think that people who switch phones frequently are losing a lot of money.

@MaryMR: Many good thoughts in your post. I agree with practically every word!

For business reasons, I need to use the Atrix as a phone, and this is where I have been let down. Mine is plagued with the "muffled voice" issue, and it has degenerated to the point where I use my personal cell(a 3 year old Samsung flip phone which was free with the contract!), for important business voice calls. The retailer store manager I took it to, for an exchange, told me to forget it; every one of his Atrixes have that defect, and he has stopped selling the Atrix, because he can't get any good ones. So, I'm presently looking for a different Android phone.

You are wise to wait, if you can. The price on a new Atrix is dropping, almost weekly. And we have no idea what the latest update will accomplish or if there will be any others in the future. I was forced to hastily replace my previous Palm Pre because it was dying, and I had to have a functional device. I really DO like the Atrix, but it appears that a signficant percentage of them are defective, in one way or another. I DON'T want to discourage you from the Atrix, because it's an amazing device and you will have the 30-day buyers remorse period to make your own decision, to make sure you are satisfied.

But if you have the luxury of time, to think about your purchasing decision, then you have a tremendous advantage, on so many points which matter. "Good things come to those who wait" :)

Atrix Voice Quality Issues

@ attweco:

I have heard about the muffled voice problem. Did you hear that it may help to change a setting: Menu > Settings > Call Settings > Noise Suppression: Off Also, some recommend deselecting "Voice Privacy" in the Settings also. I told a friend who has a Droid X (Verizon customer) and he said that deselecting voice privacy helped his voice quality.

This info came from (doing my research): https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/369600

I can wait; this is my personal phone and not related to work. But once again, I can't believe these companies put these items up for sale knowing they don't work well; we are truly sitting ducks...but they're not getting my money so easily. If I have to I'll keep the iPhone3G; after 2.5 years we're pretty good friends. :D
