Best Buy demos

Just FYI, stopped my local Best Buy here in the Washington DC area and they unfortunately did not have the S20 lineup on display yet.

I just called mine cause I am curious to see what they look like and how big the Ultra really is and the person who answered the phone said he's not seeing anything about them. He transferred me to the mobile and no one answered.

Probably won't be out until next week. I don't know why they wait until the last minute to display them. For me I want to see them before I made my decision.

Sounds like my experience whenever I call, so I didn't even bother with that. It's not too far away from me so I thought I'd stop by at lunch. I was disappointed, as I wanted to check some of the settings before pre-ordering. My local AT&T store had them out the other night, but they weren't allowed to turn them on.

Just stopped by my local and they have a big display soon as you walk in. The Z flip was in a glass case, but I got to play with the Ultra. Beast of a phone. I was able to use it well enough one handed and I messed with the refresh rate and the camera. Great stuff!

They're here.

the S20 Ultra is fine. it's not too big. it's barely noticeable as i'm using an S10+ now. any talk about how enormous it is is untrue. of course, clearly, ymmv, but for me, the answer is clear: there is no significant increase in size.

the Z: the hinges worked well. zero squeaking. good action: firm, sure, confident.

the slight bend in the screen is really not an issue. unless you search for it and look at reflections, you won't see it. they surely got that part right.

bottomline: it is a solution looking for a problem.

the S20 line is great. who ever said: PLEASE make me a double-thickness phone, but at half the size! PLEASE!

i've never heard of that. it's folly.

all that R&D, money spent, for what?

no real benefit.

zilch.

oh yeah, it might have gotten some press, but frankly, the amount of press the Z got was far less than the superior and much improved cameraS that the Ultra got.

if they had spent the R&D they did on the Z on the Ultra, i wonder what type of Ultra they would have gotten?

;)

I stopped at my local Best Buy at lunch today, they didn't have them out yet. They said they were waiting until tonight when a Samsung rep is there to set it up.

I was in a Best Buy at lunch and had the good fortune to have a Samsung rep in store who let me have hands on time with both the Flip and the S20+. I have to admit the Flip is intriguing and has a gorgeous display but is a fingerprint magnet. I spent quite a long time with the 20+ as I'm coming frm S9+ and wanted to see how the size difference felt in my hand. I am loving the flatter look and feel of the new phone, and the smooth buttery responsiveness of it. He showed me quite a few camera tricks and the video is AMAZING.

My only gripe to him was color choices and he agreed that he thought they played color way too safe. I pressed to inquire if we might expect additional color choices in the States but hr said it was way too soon to know.

I think I will be pre-ordering a black S20+.

Just got back from best buy. I was on the fence with the plus vs the ultra but after handling them, I'm going with the ultra. It is not as big and heavy as everybody is making it out to be. Feels great in hand. Only thing I'm going to miss is that cool blue color.

Just got back from my local Best Buy and they had no idea when they would be out. And there were no signs of them getting ready for the displays either.

When I was at my Best Buy the rep looked like he was setting them up unfortunately I couldn’t stay around to play with them

Stopped by after work today. (Edit: Just wanted to pop into BB, check out the phone, hold it, play with it for a few minutes and then posted a few pics and save the post of my thoughts for when I got home that I'll post below)

S20 Ultra...

Love the pics and opinions. I don't ever go into my BB to play with the phone LOL Ill just wait until I get mine in hand.

Now that I'm home and had time to think about it during my drive, a few thoughts...

Size... coming from a Note 8, holding the S20 Ultra against my Note 8 WITH Spigen Neo Hybrid case on... practically identical height with width maybe a mm diff. So if you know how big a Note 8 with a Neo Hybrid is, then you know exactly how big it is in hand and feels.

I wish I could rock an Ultra without a case because I could make the transition no problem if its the same size and feel as my Note 8 with a case. But I know I couldnt feel safe doing so, so adding a case will make it a bit chunkier... but not a deal breaker with the right case. I'd go slim with the Neo Hybrid... not super slim but enough bulk to protect and suprisingly the Neo Hybrid keeps the thin feel with the tapered curve at the sides.

But after also holding the S20+, I really really wish the they could have fit the Ultra cameras in the + dimensions. Held the S20+ and pressed against my Note 8 WITHOUT Spigen case... practically the same size as my Note 8 with the 20+ maybe a mm thinner. So definitely if you were a Note 8 owner, there would be no compromise in dealing with size if you got the +.

Thought on camera bump on Ultra... just offensive how it bulges out. But put on a case and I guess it's... less offensive. Camera bump on the + is just fine.

Camera... Really Really wish they could have put the 10x optical zoom in the +. If the S20+ in the current dimensions, had the camera with 10x optical, I wouldn't bother with the Ultra. Done deal IMO. The 10X is nice and can see myself using it often because it's sharp at 10x.

100x is just a terrible gimmick but that's only playing with it inside the store. So shakey and blurry so maybe it would have been cool for huge shots like 100x zoom when I was in Switzerland last year taking a picture of the Matahorn maybe. But even then, I don't know if it's worth it. I'd rather take a sharp pic at 10x optical I think than possibly waste a moment taking at 100x and it's all grainy and blurry.

The rep at front of store showing the S20 Ultra... had the Ultra on a tripod... most likely to show the 100 zoom. That's the only way you're gonna demo it to make the shot look good lol.

The front screens on the phones... awesome as usual. But honestly when I held both the Ultra and + in hand and looking at the screens... I wasn't excited. The bezels may be thinner every year and it is amazing looking. But it really just looks and feels like the past couple of S phones that underwhelming because it doesn't feel any "newer" or different. Didn't really know if it was in 120hz, forgot to check, but I doubt it would be super noticeable. But I do notice the difference between my iPad 11" Pro and older Airs so I'll try to notice the next time.

Guess, that's all I can think about. Flagship phones... no doubt about it. But I really wish the 20+ had the 10x optical... if it did (does I have to check specs again in case I missed that it does) I'd really think I'd go for a 20+ with 10x. The 100x wasn't impressive.

I think I can wait to see with the Note 20 will have.

My Husband & I looked at the s20 line today at our local Best Buy.

I was very underwhelmed. Sometimes I think all the hype & fanfare can lead to a big letdown.

The Ultra didn't seem to large for my hands. Didn't feel heavy. The zoom didn't exactly blow me away as I was hoping it would. Ofcourse, they looked nice & felt nice. I actually was bored playing with the Ultra & the Plus.

Nothing there that makes me want to give up the s10+.

But then, it's still early in the preorder season. :)
