Best Buy demos

My Husband & I looked at the s20 line today at our local Best Buy.

I was very underwhelmed. Sometimes I think all the hype & fanfare can lead to a big letdown.

The Ultra didn't seem to large for my hands. Didn't feel heavy. The zoom didn't exactly blow me away as I was hoping it would. Ofcourse, they looked nice & felt nice. I actually was bored playing with the Ultra & the Plus.

Nothing there that makes me want to give up the s10+.

But then, it's still early in the preorder season.

If you set the refresh rate to 120hz, instead of the default 60hz in-store, you would definitely have beet at least more tempted to upgrade . It's the main reason I'm upgrading. Otherwise, I agree with you... this update cycle from Samsung has been underwhelming.

So I played with all 3 models today at T-Mobile. Design and colors are as underwhelming in person as they are in photos/videos. But from the front... absolutely gorgeous. Minimal bezels, incredible display, tiny punch hole camera.

And the highlight of it all... that 120hz display. Good God it's so buttery smooth! I don't think I'd even care to upgrade if it wasn't for that.

The Ultra, meanwhile... sorry to say, but between how gigantic it is and that ugly camera hump (complete with "100x Space Zoom" text on it) is such an easy, hard pass for me. I know some people couldn't care less about how a phone looks, and some use their phone as their main computer pretty much... so they won't mind the ugly design, bad color options, or the size. It is, after all, a spec and camera beast.

I think the Plus is a manageable size. I can see why it would appeal to many. Much better in the hand than the Ultra. I still prefer the regular S20, though I think something between the S20 and S20 Plus would be ideal.

As far as the colors, I think it's been pretty well established that most of us in here and online are quite underwhelmed. The Twittersphere, tech YouTube, etc. have all seemed to voice displeasure. More style-conscious markets like Italy, Spain, the rest of Europe, South Korea, etc. got the best colors... including a Cloud White and an Aura Red. I found the Cloud Blue to be a bit underwhelming as well. It's like a powder blue version of the Aura Glow. It's not terrible by any means, but it pales (no pun intended) in comparison to the S10 color options IMO. I don't even like the grey very much, and that's the color I ordered. This pastel/baby-colored theme is just a weird direction for Samsung.

If you liked it in the videos, you'll like it in person. I studied it a lot in pics and videos since the Samsung Unpacked event, and have since seen it in person twice. Very shimmery.

The Flip surprisingly was my favorite phone to see this past week. Never cared for the Fold and the S20 line today was underwhelming... but when I went to BB to see if they had the S20 and the rep let me see and hold/play with the Flip, I was very impressed.

Too bad they didn't offer the the blue on the Flip for the S20. The color choices for the S20 very dull... as you can see from my pics, I actually couldn't get a good look at the color with the smudges it kept.

You see satin and matt being hot trends in cars and wraps... If they were going to do dull, to bad they didn't do satin or matt silver or blue in back... sandblast the back and give it a frost texture. Crazy Hot Pink on the S20+??

I thought alot about going with the plus versus the ultra but the more I looked at the ultra I liked it more. Compared to my note 10 plus the size didn't seem crazy huge to me. I don't use the stylus all that much which was the reason I went back to the S line. Here's a pic of the ultra and plus next to each other.

I was in the same boat. I went in fully expecting to get a plus but when I compared the ultra to my note and kept looking at it I changed my mind. Best to see them in person and confirm what's right for you. My wallet would have appreciated the plus more. Lol.

Stopped by BB again, looking at some noise canceling headphones maybe for flight to Cali next week...

Side by side with the ultra and +. Couple of pics from gallery. Took a few pics with each 10x and 30x and pinched to zoom to see the detail of the 10x and 30x. Default is 60hz so went to 1080p and 120hz and a bit smoother.

I need to stop by again since yesterday when I went i could only play with the S20 and S20+. There was a guy who was glued to the Ultra forever and not letting anyone else take a look. Granted I didn't ask him but it's common courtesy when others are around to not spend that much time. I'll try to drop by during weekday since the crowd will be much lesser compared to weekend.

Standard S20. I can't do big phones and I appreciate that there's still the smaller option. Though I will say, the S20+ is surprisingly pocketable. I really thought I'd be sticking with the S10 for another year but I took some pictures in Best Buy and I'm impressed. The pictures I took of my wife specifically. Hair looks MUCH better on the S20. The T-Mobile $500 rebate is the reason I even considered doing this.

S20 and S20+, pretty much the same, save for the time of flight sensor on the S20+. The S20 Ultra is on another level. I didn't really play with the Ultra. I'd never spend that much money on a phone.
