Best Buy Finally Called and Asked Me To Return The GN

Yeah.. I dunno about all that. He sold his other device to purchase this one. I'm sorry, but in my eyes it's unreasonable to ask for the device back without any type of compensation for his time and troubles.

At the very least a 'loaner' device, and a boatload of free accessories for the Nexus.

At the very least. As said.. this guy could put that phone up on ebay for over the retail price and probably sell it tonight.. so the offer would have to be on par with that option.

I don't mean to be a ******, but the guy at best buy has most certainly already gotten fired for it, and it has little to do with you anymore (Nothing you do will change it). Now *their* manager? They're probably still on the line... which is why they're calling you about it. Best Buy isn't this monolithic corporation with 1 hivemind and a ton of employees. The manager will most likely not get fired, I'd imagine he may not get the christmas bonus he was hoping for though.

I finally got a call from the best buy that sold me my Galaxy Nexus asking me to take it back since they weren't supposed to sell it due to a "Software problem".

Needless to say I'm torn on what to do.

I hate to say it but I actually saw this kind of thing coming. Did the rep who sold it to you actually call or was it someone else? They are in HOT water for screwing up and want to minimize the damage. I wonder of the rep still has their job.

That being said yes it really isn;t your problem and unless they mention blacklisting the IMEI or something I would either hold onto it or negotiate for some compensation.

EDIT: after reading the rest of the thread I changed my mind: return the device and ask them for a loaner one till the Nexus is released since you have no other phone. If they offer anything else accept graciously. You knew they were not supposed to sell the device and took advantage of their ignorance.

They asked you to take it back. Now you have an obligation to do so. I would do it. There is NO downside to returning it, but for the loss of use of it for a few days.

Wrong. Legally he has NO obligation to do so. He paid for the product. That simple. Any lawyer will tell you as such. That's Best Buy's problem now, not the customers.

Sit on it and let it blow over they arent going to do crap. Its not an issue verizon doesnt care about 1 phone. It was a mistake on the bb guys part and he is getting in trouble for it. Stop overreacting people. What about the other hundred verizon nexuses activated out there already? You dont see them bricking those do you?

The carrier could suspend his account and blacklist the phone.

Not saying they will but you asked what the worst that could happen would be and that is about it.

Highly doubt that. They'll go after Bb for bigger cash then him.

When have you ever heard of them doing that? He could get hit by a car tomorrow. Im sure thats way worse.

I love the post every 5 pages or so from people that haven't read the whole thread and make another Admiral Ackbar joke.

Not a remote chance they'd do that. Imagine getting in a car accident, no one around, and your only hope is to call 911. But wait, Best Buy cut the phone off.

Oh, the lawsuit that would result.

Not a chance they cut it off.

Even a deactivated phone (even one with no SIM card) will dial 911.Any compatible network has to connect you. All phones are that way now.

I think we should blame the 30 something pages of jibberish on the OP if he doesn't save this thread soon.
