Best Buy Finally Called and Asked Me To Return The GN

guinnkevinr, I'm curious. If you log into My Verizon, are you able to assign your phone to your account? You know, when you log into the screen it shows a picture of your current phone and description.

That would be fun to know :)

I think you've got to give it back. You went there hoping to basically trick someone into selling you a phone you knew hadn't been released yet.

You were wrong from the beginning, time to make it right.

He walked in to a store asked for a product they sold it to him how is that wrong? The phone was supposed to be realeased that day.Keep the phone and sell it.

I would not return it unless they are willing to give a lot of money. Everyone says have the moral decency and what not but if the tables were turn in some situation where YOU made a mistake don't think for even a second these two giant corporation would have a moral decency at all. That is what would make me not what to return it because those greedy son of a guns have screwed over innocent people thousands of times and not even cared. You think if you forgot to purchase insurance on a phone and dropped it either of these companies would help you if it was past the return policy but way before the contract expiration?

With people this thinking is wrong but when dealing with a corporation f'em BB has fired people for nothing riped off people including myself many times its called karma people

Plus, if they end up firing the guy who sold a piece of merchandise in the store's stock and system without having to bypass anything saying he wasn't allowed, he likely can walk away with a very nice wrongful termination suit.

This phone is not coming out any time soon if BB is making this big a deal over a phone that's releasing in a few days just makes no since to me.You should keep the phone and sell it for big money when it gets canceled.

Really, just stop. You have no idea. None of us do.

Two things are posible.

1. Best buy rep thinks the release is soon. If that is true, he still sold a phone before it was technically released. He is wrong and repercussions my follow. He may loos his job, his store may get fined, all sorts of bad thigns might happen. Little store rep does not get to make the big call that oh, its going to be released soon so who cares. Verizon and Best Buy probably told him to get the phone back, period, and he has to follow instructions.

2. Best buy rep does not have any clue when launch is. If that is the case, what I staed above still stands.

Not pursuing the phone would be the same as admiting the launch date is soon. The store rep does not make the call, and I dont think verizon and BB corprate care enough to follow this closely. They probalby just told him day of the sale "get it back now" and he is carying out those instructions to the best of his ability.

I logged in just to say this,

When I came into your store (BB) looking for a $99 HTC Flyer you guys advertised a few months ago and was treated like a turd and told to shuffle off, that it was a misprint, you guys wouldn't budge.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, ish is supposed to change?

Hey Best Buy...

Cool story, bro.

LOVE the video !!! awesome.

you know .. maybe they'll back down. if vzw is involved, they might not want to take the negative feedback from all of this. they might just move on and drop it. UNLESS the nexus is getting canned.

anyway ..
interesting tho. good stuff!

So true!! same thing happened to me. We were LINED up outside for an hour. The doors open, and they have a sign on the INSIDE of the story saying, "we screwed up about the Flyr, sorry. It's still $300 (or whatever). Go away now."

I wrangled with them for a half hour, no go.

Love the return story. Really loved the video he made and put on youtube.
Wonderful story. BB and VZW can stick it.

wow OP, I am glad you told them to F off... They can very easy issue a $50 gift card, I worked retail for years. This is just Best Buy thinking they can be the corporate monster and screw the little guy as usual. Enjoy your phone, and if the screen has issues, keep it up until the return policy is about to expire

To the OP:

Funny you thought you were getting the nexus before hand and bb gave you a big F U with giving you a faulty one lmao.

No biggie, best buy still has a 30 day return policy, right? He can return it to any best buy he wants within 30 days for a new one. I'd be willing to bet 50 cents its launched before his return is up. Not betting anymore than that as my odds in Vegas are probably better. However he's not in a bad situation at all, return it and find a cheap phone to use in the meantime on craigslist or something.

That's why education is so important. The ability to seize opportunity based on knowledge that others lack is how people become wealthy. Knowledge is out there to be had. Screaming foul play, for not doing the homework is not a question of morality.

Rather than questioning the morality of anothers in this situation, question why this strikes a nerve when the consensus of the whole is that he did nothing wrong? Could it be that someone else got something that you wanted, before you did? Now that's a moral dilemma.

Have a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

I just can't wait til they start calling again today offering me the 16gig iPhone again to return it. I'm going to tell them to call back when they have something to offer that's actually worth me returning the best phone I've ever had and then hang up.

If he tricked the employee into selling him the phone, that's wrong. If he asked to see it and then asked to purchase it, that's fine. I don't think it's ethically or morally wrong to ask a question that you know the answer too (ie. it's not really for sale). However, if coerced, cajoled, or otherwise arm twisted someone into selling the phone, that is morally wrong.

From what I can tell, he went in there and went to see if they'd sell it to him. They did, he left. Seems reasonable to me.

i would list it on ebay right now and make a profit while i still have a high-demand item. take advantage of scarcity

So keeping a screwed up phone just to be a thorn in the side of a few BB employees sides = winning? And if VZW does get wind of this and decides they want the phone back all they need to do is send a kill signal to the thing and it will be bricked.
