Best SMS/MMS app for the One

I was using Textra for a while but, all of a sudden I started having problems sending pictures not matter what the size was. I contacted the support person and he responded right away. He started asking for screen shots of the errors and change this and change that and after several attempts to correct the problem without any luck he told me I need to go out and I will contact you later. That was about two weeks ago and never heard from him again, so I went ahead and uninstalled it and using the stock messanger that came with my Galaxy Note 3 and so far I haven't had any problem. It is to bad because when Textra was working it was pretty good.

I used to use Textra as well but now I use GO SMS.

I've tried everything but GO SMS is definitely the best app for sms!!!

Handsent has become a bloated, buggy, nearly non-functional, SMS/MMS app. I've been a fan and user of Handsent for a quite a long time. I was always happy with it's performance and features. And then... *ominous music*, they decided to "improve it".

Now I can't even get into my Handsent account (that I paid an annual fee for) and they don't respond to email attempts to get the issue resolved. They've already gotten my money so what possible incentive could they have to try and fix an issue that they're smart enough to fix?

These monkeys can now, not find their asses with both hands. Each and every update for the last half dozen or so, is so riddled with bugs that they don't even know which way to look in order to deal with the next problem.

There's no support. Their silly "cloud" is non-functional, their password reset/retrieval is non-functional, there's no response to emails, and they've just been incapable of getting their stuff together.

One other question though... What is considered the best PAID SMS/MMS app? I really don't trust the free ones because it's YOU that is being mined for ad data etc.

Had I backed up the last working version of Handsent, I'd not be scouring the internet now, trying to find a replacement for this POS.

I'm glad to have come across this thread. Those of you that posted reasons for your choices and comparisons to other offerings were the most help. I'll try some of these things and see how it goes.

I think I'm going to start with this "Slider" app that I've talked about. Textra looks pretty good too but I'm concerned about some of the comments concerning MMS picture sending. I would like for my text app to do this well. I'm not as concerned with interface bells and whistles so long as the UI is arranged well and easy to read.

I'll keep an eye on Handsent and see if they're ever able to pull their heads from their rear-ends. It's really too bad that they had to take a perfectly good app and destroy the thing.

My favorite is 8sms by far. It's basically stock messaging but with a dark theme, and it works really well. Textra is good too.

As a Verizon user I'm a big fan of the Verizon Messages app. It has a nice clean interface with customization options for colors, etc. Handles MMS very well including quick access to a list of all the media, links, etc that you and a contact have exchanged, and has Pop-Up quick reply options. On top of that it also syncs with Tablets (both iOS and Android) and allows you to send/receive from your phone number on them (sort of like iMessage). And if you are on the computer you can log into MyVerizon and text from your web browser.

I highly recommend Verizon users check it out!

I just got my HTC One for Sprint the other day. I have been using the stock SMS program. But I also would like an app that will remind me that I have a text a few times in case I miss the first notification. That's the only thing I don't like about the stock app. Can someone tell me if Textra has this option in its settings? I was using Handcent with my old phone and I could set it to remind me every 2 minutes. But Handcent just got too buggy and I could no longer send or receive MMS. Thanks.

Downloaded Textra today. The only thing I don't like about it is when I read a new SMS the keyboard opens up along with the message. Minor but I do think it's annoying. I do love the multiple notifications but I might go back to the stock SMS app due to the keyboard thing.

Another vote for Textra. It's FAST. Love it. I e-mailed the developers a suggestion last week to add a missed text reminder option, and bam there it is in today's update. Haven't been this happy with an app in a while.

I emailed the dev as well and he got back to me within 48 hours! They have a great team and support. Over all its the best SMS app out there IMO. I love it. +1 again!

I think there is a way to turn this off in the settings.

I must be overlooking this simple task, how do you save a picture from a message? I long press and all I get is delete, send as new, forward, or lock. No save option.

Are you talking about Textra or the stock app? If Textra there is an option to check in the app settings that will auto save to gallery if checked.

Firstly, it has no way to send emotes except the basic ones, not the Android ones or any of the extended sets plus the biggest problem is that it won't let you schedule a text to send repeatedly. :-\

Chomp sms allows you to send scheduled messages. Deal breaker for me and the one I use.

Tap it one time then click the save icon. It will then download to your "downloads" folder on your phone. (Textra Howto)

I had never heard of this app. This is exactly what I have been looking for, so thank you.
