Getting prepared for tomorrow. If I am restoring apps/data is the best thing still to set up phone and then use smart switch to restore from Note 8 backup?

Smart switch works fantastic, especially whe you use the usb. Plug the phones together and go.

Definitely! I used Smart Switch a few weeks ago to move from an iPhone to the GS9+ (which is now my wife’s phone) and it was pretty much flawless, except for a few apps here and there that didn’t map to the Google Play Store. It’s a million times better than restoring from Android backups in Google Drive, too.

Who's had more to drink tonight lol. I say you. J/K. Honestly that USB method works really well

Amy, I don't drink and never have lol it's just hooking them both up with one type C cord makes it seem that way LMAO

I didn't mean to come across wrong on that - just joking around. Now you make me think about that Klondike commercial "I don't think that's how they're made" lol.

Memory card would be the fastest using smart switch if you have one with enough available memory.

And it clarify, it moves all of one's data from within one's apps? As well as 3rd party launchers and settings and such?

Thanks!

No. Some apps prevent that. So those you can't do anything about. You'd need root access to be able to get everything. Apps will transfer by their own backups (for example Nova can backup to dropbox, games through Google Play). So all apps that allow SmartSwitch and everything by Samsung is a go.

Does smart wizard work well moving data from iPhone ?

Yes it does... If I remember correctly, there are a few things it had trouble moving, like maybe group chats from iMessage? Other than that, it works pretty much flawlessly. I'll try it again this evening after my new Note arrives and report back with my findings.

Well, assuming you're upgrading from a Note 8, therefore going from Android 8.0 to 8.1 - personally, I would think a FRESH install would be cleaner; avoiding any possibility of a rogue app transferred from another phone from causing problems. i.e. spend 30 minutes to an hour installing your apps from the store, doing the logins/configurations and thereby insuring clean installations.

I may be way off base with these assumptions, but when I get the new phone I'm going to take the time to treat it like a NEW phone.

I know most people don't want to go through this, which is why the include the smartswitch adaptor in the box, but when we start seeing those threads in the next week or so that state 'Why does my battery life suck?', I would guarantee that those folks had app compatibility issues via migrations.

As I'm trading my s8 into the Samsung Experience Store they are switching my info over for me.

If they were not able to do this then I'd use my Samsung cloud back up.

I ended up using the Samsung account to restore what I wanted on my Note 9 from the Note 8. I had a hectic day with LOTS of running around to do, so not a lot of time to sit back and thoroughly exchange data from one phone to the other - constantly was on the go today.
