Best way to migrate data from Note 8

So I'm having issues transferring data. It gets to 99 percent and errors out.

I use Google to restore apps and Samsung cloud restore for messages, call log and settings.

Some of you might not have many apps or have both devices long enough to switch. I tried Smartswitch with the 9+ and the estimate was over five hours with USB and even longer with wireless. Same situation now, when trading in my 9+ for the N9 as downpayment. Don't want to hang around Best Buy that long, but cool for folks that can use it :)

I would use the SD card then. I copied 20Gb from my Note 8 to the 9 and it only took about 15min to import.

Crap. I too have a lot of apps and this scares me as I was going to have Best Buy do it for me.

You use the included wire with the adapter to connect the two phones for the transfer any USB C cord would do though as long as you have that adapter

Well, assuming you're upgrading from a Note 8, therefore going from Android 8.0 to 8.1 - personally, I would think a FRESH install would be cleaner; avoiding any possibility of a rogue app transferred from another phone from causing problems. i.e. spend 30 minutes to an hour installing your apps from the store, doing the logins/configurations and thereby insuring clean installations.

I may be way off base with these assumptions, but when I get the new phone I'm going to take the time to treat it like a NEW phone.

I know most people don't want to go through this, which is why the include the smartswitch adaptor in the box, but when we start seeing those threads in the next week or so that state 'Why does my battery life suck?', I would guarantee that those folks had app compatibility issues via migrations.

This is the main reason I always end up not using Smartswitch as much as I want to. I am afraid it's going to copy over some data that is going to lag or mess up my new phone. It's probably irrational, but I just can't get past it and I end up doing everything new. I do manually move backups over - like for Nova, my text messages, etc. - but apps and data wise, I reinstall. It's a pain in the butt and it takes me hours and hours and days to set it all up. Having to re-login to so many apps is also a pain. Thank goodness for Last Pass.

I used smart switch with USB. Worked perfect, just had to install 2 or 3 apps that didnt install and all was good. Took about 45 minutes. I just ate dinner and came back and was done :)

That initial time will go down quick as it progresses.
