Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

I for one like my buttons, to me they will use less battery than having additional screen to replace them. I get that they could set them to "auto hide" like on your PC so that they aren't under utilizing the screen. But waiting for them to "unhide" to me could be annoying. It's very fast and reliable to have a home screen, back button, menu button always there, always in the same spot as an override. How many times has a phone lagged up, locked up, timed out and you need the buttons to quickly launch you back or home? Just my 2 cents but I for one am not excited about going "button-less".
Additional screen to replace them? I don't think it will change to an aspect that isn't current for the sake of video. They wouldn't set anything, you would. You would. I am sure you can have them on command, via a gesture, or the eye they replace the buttons with. I have always thought the 4 power keys were OK. I turn the lights off, an generally only use the home key. I know people like them, and I think they will be part of many devices for a long time. I for one am hoping the nexus morphs into something more futuristic, and can't wait to see the ICS (lable me a Google OS freak.) I think people will need to see it to go "okay" that makes sense. Good bye buttons! Shoot, I can't even asighn macros on them like I can my PC mouse and Keyboard! Oye~

If those are the specs I'll start salivating right now.

A little bit of disappointing news I think. I was seriously hoping for the OMAP 4460 at at least 1.2GHz, and being able to overclock with custom ROM's/kernels but according to FAUguy on HOFO after looking at the FCC spec sheet it looks like 4430.

"The ones for the IHDT56MX1 (which we think is the Targa/Bionic) lists a few things:

Processor speed 1GHz (we know this is dual core)
1GB DDR2 SDRAM (more than we thought)
16GB eMMC (internal memory, just like the DROID 3)
540x960 qHD display
1GHz video clock (maybe just the processor speed?)
HDMI jack with 1080p/720p output
1735mAh battery (good size battery)"

And the 1GHz CPU and GPU speed seem to point to the 4430, though it could be an underclocked 4460. AND retail versions can differ, right? I also was hoping for the original 1930 mAh battery from Etna.

My suspicion tells me this lte device will have decent battery life and be fairly fast. My X hit 2300 on quadrant last night without turbo, and that is one old motor.

It will definitely be fast, but given all the delays I was just hoping for top of the line. I am still going to get it!

I can't wait either. I think alot of people will hate it because its not the gs2 but i think the bionic is going to be the flagship phone the Droid lineup needed to get back on track since since the droid there really hasn't been any worthy successor to it.

I agree. And all the talk about the Pentile screen is overblown I think. I have the TBolt now and love the screen, did not really like the Charge and the DX2 screen, while i could see the pixel problem people are talking about, it was only very close up and did not bother me. I would love if the screen looked like the T-Bolt, but it will not be a deal breaker for me.

I also have the TB played with a charge. Yes the screen is nice but alot of the colors are oversaturated. Personally the screen won't be a turn off for me since i am more worried how it performs and works for me over everything else.

Imo my droid x spanks my droid on so many levels...(thanks to @cvpcs)

I would hope lol. A 1ghz vs 700mhz processor less memory ram etc. I'm talking about all the intrest and devs it brought to Android

What I find scary was that the OG Droid was the phone that changed everything...After that Android took off to be the world conqueror that it is today...Not to mention the massive marketing budget it had...lol

I'd love for them to do another droid scavenger hunt.

That's what I'm saying there hasn't been a phone with that kind of attraction power since then. I think the bionic could do that if they made it stock and kept bootloader unlockable which seems like they decised to do that with the bootloader. Lets hope they get rid of blur but thats doubtful. Atleast an unlocked bootloader will allow for lots of devs and roms.

Its an underclocked 4460.

Oh man, I love Compiz, especially with Emerald running on top, it really blows people away when they see a refined and attractive interface that doesn't really look like either of the two commercial OS'es. Not too surprising he's not familiar with that though, many IT guys I've talked to run Windows most of the time, and they experience Linux mostly through SSH, no gui there, ha. Still, I find it hard to believe that many IT guys aren't also tech enthusiasts who wanna try everything, like we are.

But yeah, iOS is indeed forked from OSX, built on the same Darwin core components, which is itself BSD derived, as you know. Specifically, their kernels are Unix-derived, and therefore feel quite similar through a terminal to our preferred Linux based OS'es, including of course Android. I would hope there's not an IT guy out there who doesn't know that the phone in his pocket is running a Unix-based kernel, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Well, in his defense, he said he's asked people who own Androids why they like it and he said "All they every said was because it's so cool. Nobody has ever explained all the advantages like you before." He seemed genuinely appreciative.

As for being tech enthusiasts, I would have thought that most are, but I recall one IT guy (not this one) who told me he doesn't want to go near a computer when he gets home at night.

You should ask me why instead of assuming I was referring to the chip. Lmfao! So I am not confused with your reasons, the droid was epic, it changed the game, no argument there. The X is a huge success, worthy of the respect it has, because it wasn't a slider, that is it. Motorola messed it up locking the loader and bloating it with blur. Back to MY original point argh... My X spanks my droid on so many levels because @cvpcs re developed code the trumps the 2nd int process allowing Us to partition everything and run 100% beastly free on the phones hardware (what made the droid great) I am not talking about predicted increased hardware capabilities, that we all already know. Because motor got greedy, HTC, Samsung and others have capitalized and now lead. I am glad motors recent stock diversity and our community complaints have them unlocking new devices, it is about time. Yes, the X sold wild like the droid, it will always be respective, and devs still amaze me with their continued support.

Yes but it is like comparing a ferrarri(droidx) to a mustang(of Droid) obviously newer hardware/software is going to perform better. But you're right moto got cocky and it cost them and now they are going back to what they should have done all along.

I am trying my best, lol. Again, I am not comparing hardware. I know many that passed on the droid (slider) and jumped on the X. It was about form factor Imo. I agree, bout time motor got back to roots.

Yes but form factor has nothing to do with running circles around the phone. You put the hardware of droid x in the droid and the droid hardware in the x the Droid obviously would be better. Form factor or not because that does nothing to how the phone functions.

Captain obvious, don't make me change my opinion of you!
