Bionic's still coming, is defintely new hardware - XT875

that was in regards to WebTop..not bootloader :)

Yeah, but it doesn't sound like a good sign. Unless there will be a way for "enthusiasts" to unlock the bootloader in a way that regular consumers cannot get to. Keep it "safe" for them lol.

Wow first time short time here on the forum. A ton of information here thanks guys. Not sure what to do but leaning towards waiting a bit more for this phone.

One question though, people keep mentioning HoFo. What is it?

Again thanks for all the information and keep up the chatting. Learning alot. Just wish I knew more to help out. :)

btw still using original droid so this would be a nice step up.

Since I really don't know a ton about specs and stuff... how much better should this battery be as compared with the Charge? That's really my big factor.

Targa is now the Bionic (obviously) and the Targa is a Q1 Quad Core handset.

Huh? Are you saying that the code name 'Tara' now applies to a quad core device due out next year, or are you saying that the bionic we see in new photos is quad core?

So, what is the best guess as to when this bad boy comes out. My contract is up. Renew time.

Correcto the Targa code name now applies to a Quad Core Q1 device.

If Motorola unlocks the bootloader my fascinate and Droid 2 would be gone to buy this. I really don't care about webtop but the phone looks nice

prodigy, its hard to say how much better it will be. Obviously it will be much more powerful as far as hardware, but you may not notice the difference much considering the Charge is quite capable as it is, and custom ROMs and kernels will only improve it. Still, the Bionic is definitely more powerful, and its sure to be able to do a few things the Samsung can't. For me it's just too big. The Droid X is already too big for me, and this is even bigger, and I simply won't go past my limits.

But it remains to be seen whether the screen matches up, whethet battery life is better or worse, and whether or not the bootloader is locked. If you don't mind the size though, it definitely sounds like it may be worth waiting for. Stick it out a bit and see if it still grabs your fancy, and if it'll come out before tiered data takes over.

It's definitely not a mistake to break down and get a Charge though, especially if you can get it on sale like I did. It'll hold its own for some time, and has the best screen on the market.

The Bionic is definitely more future proof, but by the time the Charge feels slow, there will be much better phones than the Bionic on the market if I want to upgrade. And I'll likely be buying off contract no matter when I buy if I want to keep unlimited data. So I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Program names aren't reused. The Bionic that you will buy was program Targa. Any other programs will get a new program name (which is always different than the marketing name you see in the store).

When the Bionic (etna) was announced, I was all for it. Then I heard of the targa that would come around the fall/winter. Sounded like it might be worth the extra month or two. I figured my rooted and rom'd X would last me till then. "Etna" got the boot, "targa" in for the rescue. So essentially I'm getting what I wanted in the first place. Now comes the "targa" again. I'm sure the codename will change and all but, it seems as though the plan was always for a Super superphone to come after the bionic. With that being said, THIS bionic is mine, if the "targa" or whatever it will be called, comes and puts the beatdown on the bionic, I guess I'll cross that bridge when it comes. I'm tired of "waiting".... <---- get it?

Winston, I understand you may not be able to say anything about this, but is there any chance we'll see the CES Etna shell make a comeback? I LOVE the specs of this new Bionic, but as I said its just too big. The Droid X is the limit for me, still a little on the big side, imho, though I'm sure your sales numbers say otherwise, haha.
Anyway, the Targa hardware in a 4" variant of the Etna shell some time next Q1 (whenever newer LTE radios allow that size) would be about perfect for me, any chance we'll see something like that?

It is all rumors right now as to what the size will be. Most likely it will be a 4.3 inch screen since that is what it was originally announced with and I don't know if moto even has the tech to build a 4.5 inch qhd screen right now. Guess we will find out once more info leaks.

I took measurements from the pictures and if that is a 3.7" Defy next to the Bionic then the Bionic in the picture is 4.3" not 4.5".

I am thinking the Bionic is probably 4.3" although I think 4.5" would be cool.

Almost right, but not really.

It's an st-ericsson chip isn't it? I forgot about them. They are one of Verizon's partners for the lte build out and they also worked with lg (I think) on an lte radio chip that was announced for Verizon.
