Bixby?

Absolutely NOT. Hate OK Google. Listened to my husb setting up Bixby Wed night & wanted to throw that beautiful Note 8 out the door. I can't stand the idea of the phone always "listening". I know it must be in order to activate the app, but if I don't use it, I can be blissfully ignorant of that fact!

Even more annoying is that it's a high estrogen female voice. Used to love picking the British (Aussie?) guy's voice in BlackBerry Traffic :)

Oh, and...

Haven't even bothered with the bixby button. I just used this app to remap it to my camera

I FLOVE you!!!

There are several voices to pick from.

I'm going to give it a shot because it seems like it has a different goal to the google assistant. It's more for doing commands on your phone. From what I've seen so far some of them seem quite useful.

I asked Bixby
to show me how to take a screen shot of the web page I was looking at. It didn't show me how to do it, instead it just did it for me which was pretty cool.

The only thing I want to talk to my phone to do is make calls and send text messages. Bixby wants to force me to use the stock messaging app, Google Assistant let's me use whatever texting app I want to use. So until Samsung gets off their high horse and allows bixby to work with third party texting apps I'll stick with Google Assistant.

I use a package disabler to disable bixby, specially the button to avoid the accidental pushes.

I've been using it quite alot, it's actually very useful if you allow yourself the time and effort to get use to it. It's not a Google Assistant replacement, it's a companion. I have been setting up all these custom commands for Bixby and it's working great like verbal automation.

For instance when I say take a picture, I have it set up to do all of the things in this pic. //uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170908/890208c6ba9d1ddac8ef9894f78751bf.jpg

Or when using the front facing camera it does this
//uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170908/77a08eb3e055469f411340c8e0b117dd.jpg

I also have it setup to do several tasks and change settings when I say I'm leaving home, or when I'm driving and when I return home etc... It's far more pleasant than I ever expected based on many youtuber's thoughts. I still use Google Assistant for web searches but use Bixby for controlling my phone.

How do you customize?

I turned on Bixby so you can say "OK Bixby" and then a command. I went to take a pic using the smile command like I usually do. Evidently, if you enable Bixby to wwake up on voice instead of button, you cannot use the voice commands with the camera. :(

Right that annoyed me, but you can set up Bixby to do it for you automatically. I have mine set to take my picture, adjust the photo and then put it in a specific album. So basically you tell Bixby to take your picture instead of just saying the voice command.

I feel stupid talking to my phone. I don't want people hearing what I'm doing. The voice stuff has never really appealed to me.

Just an update, I've added many more quick commands to Bixby that are truly time saving and easy.

1. "I'm driving" and Bixby launches my automate app (better version of android auto)
2. "I'm at the gym" and Bixby goes into Samsung health, starts my weight training tracker, then opens Google play music and starts playing my workout Playlist
3. "Optimize Phone" and Bixby opens device manager, optimizes, then opens recent apps, clears list then goes into battery, checks the back of status then clears background processes.

There are many more I have and am working on, this is a very beneficial and useful tool. I don't use just the basic commands as often but I love creating these quick commands with multiple steps. I'm really digging Bixby.

Haven't gone through the entire thread but Bixby is not a Google Assistant replacement. Bixby does what Google Assistant only wishes it could do. Give it a chance.
