Black blotchy mess/black crushing. Pixel 2?

Installed P beta on my latest Pixel 2 non-XL. Still horrible blotches and black crush. It's almost alleviated by setting Screen Balance app to RGB strength 8, but it makes black backgrounds gray.

My regular S9 has some very minor black crush that can totally be fixed by Screen Balance and not affect true black in content. Pixel 2, still crap.

I'm so torn, despite all of this I really want to keep the Pixel. But if I can't even watch video with out blotches and pixelation secondary to black crush, it's a total waste of $650.

Goggle is not alone. Samsung S9 + is having the same issues (black crush).

They recently released an update for S9 and S9 + to reduce banding apparently. Not sure how the crushing is now but apparently banding is better from what I've read on other forums.

Samsung just released an update for the S9 and + for banding and I think crushing. Have read on other forums there has been improvements.

I'm pretty bummed with my 2XL. It's soo awesome but I always notice the crushing. I get by but I know it's there. My smaller pixel 2 was worse than my 2XL but both have it.

I feel a bit better now.... Even with the S9/S9+ update it still crushes.... Even worse then my 2XL is. Lol. (we have both so did some comparing).
