Bloatware On The S23

I cannot remember which Android Version this happened in, but don't they keep 2 installs of the system on devices now?

That way they can do what is called a Blue/Green system deployment?

Meaning:

Green would be the OS install that you are currently using and interacting with.

Blue would be vNext that updates are installed too, then when you apply the update, it swaps them both.

Seriously, I remember this being a thing making the rounds where people complained that they were losing twice the space, then storage started getting bigger and bigger and people stop talking about it.

Anyway, I can't find anything on it, but still wonder if this was ever rolled out. That may account for some growth?

Pixels do that, A/B partitions.

I knew it was a thing, not sure all phones do it.

When you get an OS update, how long does it normally take from starting the update to get back to a usable phone?

With A/B partitions you can use your phone while the update installs.
And no, not all phones do it that way.

Thanks for the info!

If your manufacturer implements it there is no choice.

Sorry I typoed in whatever your replying to I fixed it above but you already quoted me. I don't hate my phone yet husband does but it's not set up.

My working hypothesis had been that they take the storage provisioned to offset bitrot into account... I may have been wrong about that (maaaybe!), but at least I was correct that the Ars report was full of crap lol.

It's a shame. As I said, they used to be so good.

Thanks for the link!
I'm glad you were correct that the Ars report was rubbish. That does make me a bit sad because that used to be one of my favourite sites for tech news.

I agree, used to visit the site multiple times a day, good tech sites are a rare thing nowadays.
