Well I just noticed that blockbuster updated..even though iv told it not to since day one.
when I looked in the market the "allow auto update" box was checked..guess what..I CAN NOT UNCHECK IT!
What a piece of crap.

if I could remove ONE app it would be the crappy Blockbuster app.. I might root just to have the satisfaction of removing it.

My Market Blockbuster auto-update checkblock remains unchecked, no issues.

Mine is checked but I can uncheck it. Should I? I know we needed to update it before (I think) in order to get the app to stop constantly updating the movie catalog ... or something like that.

Thanks, Robrecht

I don't think it really matters how you update it. I guess the oddity is that the OP cannot change his setting for Blockbuster in the Market. I don't know why. Mine is fine.

Personally, I just update it manually whenever it has an update (it did a month or so ago) and then I check to make sure background movie updates are disabled. No issues.

IMHO, there is way too much ado about this "bloatware" crap. AFAIC, IDM (It Don't Matter). That stuff is taking up like 0.0001 percent of disk space and prolly 0.01 percent of memory and/or processor time. Big deal. I've got more important things in my life :) Yeah, I made up the numbers, but really, they are very small.

Are you running the new market? My phone is stock (with new market) and Blockbuster doesn't show up when viewing my apps. If I search for blockbuster then it shows its installed and needs updated.

My only concern with bloatware is not the space but when it automatically runs in the background doing stupid stuff. I'd rather not have to worry about what a bunch of unknown and unwanted apps may or may not be doing.

Thanks, Robrecht

No new market app for me. not rooted or anything. I just did a factory reset the other day, and this morning i had a notification of a new update that was installed..when i saw it was blockbuster i went in to the market and saw the auto update was checked..and when i tried to uncheck it it would not let me.

stupid crappy app.

Maybe try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > Market and clearing Data.

It would be like your local car dealer putting a pinwheel on your car that produced electricity for the dealership. The pinwheel doesn't really slow you down or cost you money but why should you have a stupid pinwheel in your car providing income to the car dealer?

PC vendors have been doing this for years. Websites have too (this one included - advertisements). It's the way of the world. I don't like it either, but I am a realist.

You can delete bloatware from pc. I don't mind that they put it on. I mind that I cannot delete it .....but no not enough to go through the incredible hassle and risk of rooting.

rooting is not the hard or scary as long as you don't just do things before checking they will work first. The auto root can have u rooted and running your first rom in under a hr

I have read dozens of posts of people getting stuck in bootloader or losing some functionality after rooting. It isn't scary if you know what to do if things go wrong. It is if you don't. Yes, folks here are very helpful but it can be a long day waiting and hoping for an answer if u brick your phone and I've seen some posts in which no answer is found that works.
