Bluetooth audio - song restarts when receiver is restarted

I use bluetooth audio in my car, but when my stereo is turned off and then on, the song restarts
This never happened on my iPhone and I can't figure out why it's happening. Several other people told me this doesn't happen on their HTC Ones

It works normally when using Spotify, but when using the stock music player or Google Music, the song returns to 0:00 as soon as the stereo is off. So I have to manually pause the song before I turn the stereo off for it resume when the stereo is back on.

I have the same issue! And spotify won't play when I restart the car. It should just play from wherever it left off, but it doesn't.
