Bluetooth can't connect to Jawbone or Basis activity trackers

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (8") and am having trouble connecting to my Jawbone or my husband's Basis fitness tracker. I also have a Samsung Galaxy S4 phone and it connects to both devices without a problem.

The tablet will occasionally connect to the Jawbone, but never to the Basis.

I have tried turning wi-fi off when it is scanning, no workie! I have rebooted the tablet, no workie! I have turned Bluetooth off and on, no workie!

WTF??? Can anyone help? The tablet is only about 6 months old, purchased at Costco. . .
 
I know it sounds obvious, but you have reset the devices and put them into pairing mode, haven't you?

I tried with my Tab A 9.7 just now and it wouldn't even see my bluetooth speaker. I rebooted the tablet and it was fine, connecting to a keyboard and to the bluetooth speaker. The other thing I did was take it out of its case so it wouldn't be affected by any magnets therein.
