bluetooth headset too loud

I just had my X replaced a few days ago to a "creaking" in the body of the device. Today, I went to use my H17txt headset, and I ran into a new issue I have yet to see on these boards.

The volume was extremely loud, so I turned the volume on the headset to its lowest setting. Still too loud. I then turned the BT media volume on the phone down to zero, and it was still relatively loud. On my old X, I was able to turn it down to just barely there. (I stream music to it while I'm at work.)

Has anyone else run into this issue?

I just ordered one of these on an Amazon "Gold Box Deal" sale, so I'm interested if this problem resolved itself, or if anyone else is having it (I'm assuming it isn't too common sincenobody has responded a month later).
