Bluetooth Range on Samsung Note 5 (Coming From Samsung Galaxy 5)

I've already sent my Note 5 for warranty repair. Hope to get it back soon. If Note 5 has Bluetooth problem you have to replace motherboard. After I get my repaired Note 5 I'll report here.

I sent mine in yesterday. I'll report back the turnaround time and if I can determine how it was repaired. Wish me luck, hehe

After warranty repair (new motherboard) my Note 5 works perfectly now. No more any bluetooth issues. Bluetooth range now is huge. So, if someone has bluetooth issues all you have to do is to repair your Note 5.

Sweet! Thanks for your update. I'm waiting for mine to come back from warranty repair. You've settled my mind 😊

It's a hardware issue. Get it warrantied as soon as you can. When it happen to me I assume I had a bad bluetooth device or that something else was wrong. I took my phone to ATT Service center and they confirmed that it was a bluetooth issue on the phone itself. They wiped the phone,re-flashed it. They were easily able to reproduce my BT issues.

My note5 replacement works great. My bluetooth device stays connected even when I'm upstairs in my house. Before, my device would get disconnected when I put the phone in my pocket and my headphones would get disconnected while I'm hearing them.

Was thinking about getting a note 5 this week but maybe I'll wait, I rely on Bluetooth way to much to have issues.

The question is whether a brand new or a replaced Note 5 will show off the Bluetooth issue after some time, days or weeks!!! In my case, I'm with my second NT5. The first one worked flawlessly for one month, through November, when I sold it, cause I've bought an iPhone 6s plus. So, 20 days ago, I decided to buy another NT5 to use it with a Gear VR. After 10 days, right after I paired my brand new Gear S2 for the first time the BT problem started and lasted whatever I do to resolve it.
In resume, the mais question is if it's worth to continue using a NT5.
Regards, Rodrigo.

Hi, I am on my third phone which has been covered under the warrant. Today i called AT&T service again for the problem. My last phone lasted about three weeks before the range problem started. They know there is a problem with some of their phones and they do not have a resolution. They told to take it to a service center that can re-flash my phone. They said some Best buy stores can do it. I don't know if you can update to the marshmallow 6.0 or not. AT&T has not yet been available for the update. But i don't think it would matter. If re flashing doesn't work they send out another replacement. I have read hundreds of reads about this problem and found that some phones are OK others are not. Google and Samsung are not responding to the problem. Korean phones seem to be the ones most effected. I've heard the antenna is going bad (service rep) to software issues with codec coding of the Bluetooth, to the motherboard on the phone. There is support for each; however, i just want a phone that works. We are all stuck with a system that has failed us as customers. If the phone isn't under warranty or insurance we have no recourse.

I live in Brazil, where every consumer issue has tons of ***** burocracy and takes a lifetime to be resolved. So, the best thing for me to do is to wait for Marshmallow to fix the Bluetooth. I bought a Galaxy S6 and its Bluetooth works flawlessly throughout a very great range. I think the Note 5 and S6 Edge Plus issues reside on the 4.2 Bluetooth protocol. The others Galaxy line phones (including my new S6) have 4.1 Bluetooth modules.

I sent my phone in with two day prepaid label for warranty service. They opened it and repaired it on the third business day. The website they provide had great service tracking info and showed when they opened the box to when they repaired it. It also started that they replaced the main board. They shipped it out that same day and I received it two business days later. It works perfect! I'm very impressed with their speed and service. My phone works very well with really good BT performance.

Have the same issue.

First the range problem. Bluetooth would lose connectivity if beyond a foot or two. After the security update, the bluetooth cannot connect to any device at all.

Really very frustrated about this. Thinking of having the unit replaced.

Don't wait. Replace it ASAP. It's pretty much confirmed to be a hardware issue. The quicker you get it on the books and replaced, the better.

It's pretty much confirmed to be a hardware issue.
And Samsung make a warranty replace of motherboard (this is the only fix). I've got mine after replacement and now Note 5 works perfectly (bluetooth range is huge).

Hi there
I have same issue probably worse. I cannot even put my phone in my pocket. I thought it was the Bluetooth device that was defective but after trying few devices and also on iPhone I confirmed it was the phone. Is that hardware related or can it be fixed via update ?

It is definitely a hardware issue. In my warranty repair Samsung noted that they replaced the main board in my Note 5 for the same issue.

After the warranty repair... A month later... Can you believe it? I'm having the same Bluetooth issues again.

Samsung support suggests I try a software reflash at Best Buy because I'm on Lollipop and the baseband version is for Marshmallow. I'll try that before shipping it back again.

Follow up soon...

Very odd. I use my Note 5 with a Pebble Time Steel and have no issues with range. I'm able to drop my phone on a wireless charger in one room and go anywhere in the house without it disconnecting due to range. If I go out to the street to take out garbage or get something from the car, then it disconnects (which I think is completely normal).

You're not having issues because your phone isn't defective. I didn't have any issues until my phone stopped functioning correctly. Now twice.
