Right folks !!

I like my nexus but it has never paired with my car successfully and although breifly seems to connect then drops the connection. subsequently i cannot make calls through the car telephone hands free system. I had been hopeful that this issue might be addressed in some way with the recent update. Sadly this did not happen.

When the pairing cosde is entered, the phone displays a message asking if i wish to allow the car access to contact details. i have answered yes and no to to this prompt with the same result. the blue blue tooth icon quickly goes gray. it is possible to then connect the devices again and blue icon reappears for about 4 secodns. This issuse is very frustrating. my iphone previously had no issues and the new iphone works fine too. in fact any phone i have tried works except for the nexus.

I would be most grateful for any advice offered. I bought the car and do not know the histopry of the blue tooth installed. it is a bmw product which fits into the central column next to the handbrake in a 2004 bmw 325. the unit is bmw manufactured although may have been retiofitted. i can post a picture to see if anyone can investigate and identify the compatibility issue if this helps.

Regards

My boss has a 1 year old BMW, and both his phone and his wife's phone have problems pairing with this BMW Bluetooth. BMW says that some of their radios have issues with Blue Tooth. Try it with another auto to see if it works.

This is very easy to solve. I have struggled with this for a while with 1st generation ULF, 6th generation ULF and now 13th generation ULF.

Nexus 4 works perfectly with android 4.3 and 13th generation ulf. Does not pair with previous versions. Replacing the ulf is very easy, it's under the CD changer in the boot.

Your ulf version will be printed on the unit after HW:

FWIW my phone has never connected well to my mother's BMW. The Bluetooth successfully pairs to her iPhone about 85% of the time.

ULFs up and including ULF 945387 (Hw-Rev.09, Sw-Rev.66, e.g. in the 3series E46) have trouble pairing and connecting to Android phones since Android 4.4. This seems to be a bug in the firmware that triggers some undesirable handling in Android.

There are reports that ULFs starting with 6955522 (HW-Rev.10, SW-Rev.71) are working fine with Android. My own experience is that it works with 6969268, (Hw-Rev.10, Sw-Rev.72).

I've done extensive research in this topic (software and hardware), I started a major thread on xda-developers and have recently changed the old 945387 ULF to 6969268.

I'm leaving this as google-food, because when I was looking for this, I couldn't find the information about which iterations would start to work with Android (it was clear some would have to, since the problem reports were limited to older BMW models).
