Bluetooth version Pixel Buds use

I really want the translate feature, but I wonder how disappointed I will be in the sound quality. I am very surpised Google didn't go with Bluetooth 5.0 for these things. Bluetooth specs:
Bluetooth 4.2, not 5.0
AAC codec
