Bottom Button Light Leak?

Also just putting this out there cause I hope no one has to go through what I have currently had, but store locations are currently feeling need to not see "light leaking" as valid reason to issue an exchange. I was told exactly this
It could cost us couple of $1000 dollars to send this is and to be told nothing is wrong with this device. So we can not justify sending in the phone because customers want to nit pick that it has some flaws. If you wish to return it we will be happy to fix it, but we are not going to go through multiple phones to find one that doesn't have this issue.
I had two other issues with device that didn't matter to store location either just to let you know it wasn't just the light thing. Second was my power saving feature is completely turned OFF but at 15 percent mark phone is turning device and locking it into 1X and won't come back out until battery pull is done. Last is earpiece / speark on top is not aligned straight (Don't really care on this one just pointed it out).

Downside to all of this I get to be billed for second device the HUGE disadvantage to dealing with replacement over the phone. Had store done there job and fixed a valid issue would of be with fixed phone and not cost me another $278 that of course when I send one back will be refunded but can take up to 2 bill cycles to receive.

Signed one PO'd Verizon customer.

I just exchanged my TB today at a corporate VZW store for this very issue, and they gave me no hassle. My new one doesn't have the issue, thankfully. Sorry you are getting the runaround

Wow sorry you had to go through that, I went to my BB store and was going to exchange and they were going to take it back with np, but when I saw the other device it was worse than mine I hauled as* and I was exchanging for speakers and Light leakage but I didn't know how to turn up speakers from setting so the rep did it for me and I will deal with the little light leakage. Hope things get better for you:)

I just did the black silicone crack fill on mine and it worked beautifully. What I did was use a tooth pick to put about 8 small dabs of silicone across the screen bottom crack, then took a QTip and starting at one end pushed the silicone deep into the crack back and forth a few times. Then simply remove any excess with more QTips and a paper towel. You would never know its there and the light leak is gone and now sealed.

before......... after
wow nice, I am so clumsy I might mess it up lol, was thinking of doing that. Thanks for sharing.

If you have a good working device there is no reason to exchange it for a light leak. Its very risky you might not get one with a dot of light leaking under the screen but you could get one that is much worse in some other way.

I paid good money for my device. If it's not working/assembled properly, there is absolutely no reason for that to be my problem. There was no risk; the device has a warranty. Besides, my light leak also included a misaligned lower piece below the screen. I wasn't going to live with it.

Does anyone else have the problem with the home and menu soft keys being only about half lit? I noticed a few did along with the light leakage.

i did the silicone fix on all the sides and i like it. It will keep lint from getting into the top and sides. I actually like how tight it looks now. I used the ultra black trv silicone.

1. cleaned it out.
2.put silicone on my finger and slowly rubbed it into all the corners and sides. No worry getting it on the screen it comes off easily. Just be carefull not to get it into the speaker grill.
3. used a baby wipe to clean it all off
4. used a microfiber cloth and polished the screen.

It looks really good. It looks factory and unnoticeable unless you look for it. I think I am going to do this to all my phones from now on even if there is no light leak. I like how it seals it from dust and lint. The best part is that there is no more light leak.

Any way you could post pics? I have a small gap between the top and speaker grill but am hesitant to try this because you cant really undo it. If i can see what i looks like it would put me at ease :D

the bottom of the screen is splitting more from the plastic bumper at the bottom.... i can see some sort of glue or substance in the crack should i bother returning?

Life would just be so much easier if we could just disable those lights that backlight the keyboard. Does anyone really need to know where the buttons are? That would be the best solution for me anyway.

I put together a little how to video on the silicone fix for the light leak and just sealing it in general. hope it helps.

First of all, I cannot believe I just watched someone have to FIX their own 700 dollar phone because HTC is getting cheaper by the phone... I DO applaud your DIY video, but this just pissed me off even more, cuz my phone has slight light leakage too... and F verizon, I don't care if I got it on an upgrade... NO EXCUSES. these phones should have never left the factory... oh well, what more can I say... I WILL not allow myself to get this upset over a PIXEL. yet i am...

Still, your the man for the DIY mission ;)

I've got a small pin hole of light leaking between the back and search buttons, but I hardly ever notice.
It doesn't affect performance or the display, so I'm personally fine with it, though I can see how it might annoy someone else.

Pretty sure this silicone idea would make for an awfully difficult repair job if it ever needs to be done. Might void your warranty, too?

I just got the phone yesterday and I have 3 spots of the light leaking at the bottom and I have light leaking on the top right of the screen. Is this typical? Everything else is working fine, no reboots or anything so is it worth swapping out?
