Brand New Galaxy prevail can't see SD card from the get go

I just activated my new Boost service Galaxy Prevail. When I attempt to use my camera it tells me to insert micro SD card before using the camera. I definitely have the card in the handset. The mount SD card option is blacked out. It's like it can't even tell the card is there. Is this common and is there a way to fix it?

Eject the sd card, reboot then re-insert. If that doesn't work you might need to re-format the sd card via computer.

Well, I've tried reformating my card to every format available and it still won't work. Tried rebooting after each reformat and it still won't read my card. It's not the card cause my girlfriends phone reads it every time. Is this phone really this big of a piece of [expletive]? Like I said, the phone just won't recognize the card. It's like theres no card in it all the time. I can't use my camera at all and my phones internal memory is just about full because I can't move any of my apps to my sd card at all. Now it's telling me my text memory is full. I have to delete my messages before I can send any. This sucks. I would have just kept my ten dollar family dollar pre-paid if I knew this would be such a PIA. IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO MAKE MY PHONE SEE AND MOUNT MY SD CARD? SHOULD I TRY A DIFFERENT CARD? PLEASE HELP.
There is also an option on the reboot system screen that reads "apply sdcard:update.zip" I tried this and it just says E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 p1. Not sure what this is for but it doesn't help either.

Try formatting the card as FAT32 on your PC. If that does not work - take it back and get a new phone. It may be a hardware issue with reading the card.

okay so this just recently started happening, I am using a Prevail 2 and it worked fine at first then about last Monday it started saying "Blank SD Card" and then I just let it site for a bit and it will sometimes come back but sometimes I leave it then go to bed, when I wake it will be back, once it never came back till around 4th period during school. How do I fix this and please explain it so I can understand it.
