Brightness and Auto-Dimming at Night

I have a S9+ and am I the only one that picks up the phone at night and am completely blinded because it's too bright? Then I have to wait 5-10 seconds while the auto-brightness goes back down to low?

It seems like the phone keeps automatically bumping the brightness way up at night-time when it's locked/off and then when you unlock it, it readjusts to be low brightness after 10 seconds or so.

Thanks for any help, super annoying but I can live with.

auto-brightness only works if the ambient light changes.
for example if it is dark in the room and you have the brightness on auto and set the slider to about 50% it will be too bright for night time but the phone will not bring the brightness down unless it will get darker.
so if the ambient light level does not change the phone will not adjust the screen brightness

I don't know what you mean. It does bring the brightness back to 0% but it takes 5 or 10 seconds. It's dark in the room at night... Not changing. But brightness keeps going to like 30 percent when I lock screen. I'm not manually changing brightness. Thanks.

Mine happens almost immediately. Definitely doesn't take 5-10 seconds to adjust. Same when I go outside and it's bright. Goes full bright almost immediately.

See I'd be fine with that. But I can see the brightness bar in the notification bar just slowly going from 30 percent or so to zero haha. I'm like hurry up!

I notice this if I'm using Intelligent Scan (or Iris Scan). I believe this happens because it trying to create enough light to capture the scan. If I use a pattern it does not increase the brightness.

Thanks, I think you're right.

Hi.
I noticed that too. I had the s8 before and I can clearly tell that the brigthness was not adjusting the same. Or I wouldn't end up here after searching google for "s9 brightness issue"

I have absolutely no memory of being blinded at night by the phone. Probably because the light is already low before going to bed and my Phone is the last thing I use.

By the way, I was using iris recognition on the s8 too.

In fact, I can really tell that auto-brightness isn't behaving the same cuz I still have my S8 and just tested as I write. By default, the light is set to the level I HAD SET, and increases if it has to. Not the opposite.

That is true... I wonder what happened to S9 Series. Wasn't like this on my Note 8...
