Okay I searched and couldn't find any other threads on this and I am blown away!
Does no one else have issues with the brightness outside? I had the same issues with my S3. I had an Optimus G in between and it was GREAT outdoors.
I got to the S4 and boom, can't see crap outside in the sun. And yes, I have the brightness bumped up 100%, power saving off AND "Auto Adjust Screen Tone" is disabled as well.

Anyone else think the phone sucks in the bright sun?

Yeah its not the best in sunlight, but its definitely still visible....get an anti-glare screen protector it helps

Try a different screen mode? I(Dynamic, 100%) can read my screen just fine outside. Not as good as a HTC One but good enough.

I read in one review that auto brightness actually is brighter in the sun that if you were to crank it to manual full brightness.

Yep, it seems that using auto brightness gets brighter than going full manually, that's exactly what I do when I'm outside, then I simply get the auto off, as it drains the battery very very fast.

I got a chance to try the S4 in sunlight it is nowhere near as easy to read as my DNA but I was told this by reliable sources before I committed to it, I work outside and need a screen I can see.

I don't think it's that bad, sure it's not as good as the One in direct sunlight, but it's still readable.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, I will try what was mentioned above and go from there!

eh? I leave mine on auto all the time, can last for 2-3 days. I've found that my manual setting (very very low) that I would use was brighter then it would be on auto most times I use it, /shrug

Thanks for the cranking auto up suggestion. I'm out grilling in the sun and can see the screen great. Way better. Cheers.

It's true that the Samsung amoled screens are pretty dim in sunlight, but I find that keeps me from randomly using my phone when I should be enjoying the outdoors :).

Wanted to say thanks! An Anti-Glare/MATTE screen protector made a world of difference. I was using the built on Otterbox Defender screen protector, ripped it off of the Otterbox and replaced with a cheap matte anti glare, anti finger print protector from ebay that was like $2.00 for 5 of them and it's amazing!
Cheers
