Browser of choice?

Hey everyone, so check this out: Chrome Canary only uses 0.92 gigs worth of memory. Compared to the regular / table version of Chrome with just about 1.5 to 2 gigs of memory. Battery usages less on Canary as well. What does everyone else use for their browser on their phone though? Just out of curiosity? Thanks for any input. I love the fact that Chrome Canary still has my password saves and auto input fields as well versus other browsers though. I will say that much.

I use Kiwi. It's using 413 MB storage now after cleaning the cache. I like it because it has a bottom toolbar, dark mode, and a built in ad blocker.

I hear you. The one thing that I love about Chrome is the fact that all my passwords and usernames are stored in it. I'll have to try out Kiwi though again. Thanks for the suggestion.

So, I realize this might be trivial to most people out there, but kiwi browser versus most other Android browsers in the Play Store has a nice feature. Desktop mode by default. I understand that the reason most users won't use desktop mode on a mobile devices the screen is just too damn small. However, in order to get a website formatted properly, it's nice to have desktop mode sometimes. Check it out.

Great thread topic! I use Chrome for almost everything, but I'm considering using Brave. It's not that I do anything that's shifty - but it's nice to have that extra privacy.

I was writing a horror novel a few months ago, and had to research lots of stuff that was, well, horror-and-thriller related... And I kind of feared for the worst. "It's just for a book!" would have been my protest.

:) We would vouch for your good character!

All Chrome here.

Yeah I hear you dude. I mean I use Chrome on my laptop all the time of course. But for my mobile, I always play around with browsers. Most of because I like playing with software/apps on my phone, and Chrome regular version takes two gigs of memory most the time. Canary uses about .97 gigs of memory which isn't too too bad. I'm still trying on testing kiwi browser to see if I like it. The option of having everything default desktop view on the phone though is really really nice! Also there are some nice UI tweaks to Kiwi browser such as being able to magnify in on a specific area of a web page to put the cursor for text fields, and the scrolling seems a bit smoother and faster to me. I'm still testing it though.

Brave is a lovely browser. I used it for a while. But I am currently using chrome again.

any reason why you went back to chrome? I know I’m very anal about things in my phone, but doesn’t chrome use too much memory for just a browser? Lol that’s why I’m trying out kiwi browser.

I never look at app size, memory usage or battery drain when looking at which app to use. My app considerations are usually of the, will it flood me with ads, is it security risk and how good is the UI. UI is probably the biggest reason I stay or quit an app. A while back I was trying everything from an article after reading a top 10 mobile browser list. I had been a long time Chrome user and was again after trying all of those others from the list.

I can't remember why I switched here recently, but I stopped using Chrome on a regular basis and started using Samsung Browser. It's OK and it mostly works with Samsung Pass, maybe I'm not using it enough to really know, but like you I usually open Chrome when I'm going to a site I know have my log-in saved. Then I use Samsung Browser for day to day stuff. It still uses Google search so it's not like I'm keeping Google out of my business. Both have a dark mode and once you figure out how to make the home page open dark in Chrome it's pretty nice. The one thing I miss from Chrome on the Samsung browser is the number of interest articles on my home page. With Chrome you can scroll the first page then get the "more" button once or twice. With Samsung all I get is the first page.

On a side note, I have been playing around with Aloha browser because I found it in a top 10 for privacy browsing. Honestly I don't believe any of them that say they don't track or collect, otherwise there's nothing in it for them being free. It does offer a built in VPN. I haven't tried it yet even though it's free with the browser. Speaking of free, there is also a paid version that it keeps trying to get me to try if or offer it to my friends. Not sure what you get with the paid version. I forgot to mention free in my list of things I look for in an app.

So I haven't cut ties with Chrome and I haven't totally bought in to another browser either.

For privacy, one of the FOSS browsers, DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser (FDroid site) is viewed as good on the privacy forums I view. I use Brave (syncs bookmarks Android and Windows version) or Fennec (FDroid) based on Firefox. Don't use Google Chrome - personal choice due to privacy.

See now, I'm assuming the way. When I consider an app to use, consider the UI, app size, battery utilization, and memory usage. I like Chrome for the auto saving of passwords, but that's about it. Give them two instances of Chrome tabs open on my phone, it's already at about one gig of memory so which is pretty high on my phone or anyone's phone for that matter. I'm still Trial testing Kiwi browsing, but I'll try Samsung browser out as well.

I went to puffin browser from brave to try it out. I have the 365 subscription to use the Android TV version on my chromecast with Google TV. But I didn’t like it. So I just turned chrome back on rather than reinstalling brave.

Gotcha. I mean that makes sense. I guess not too many people here care how much RAM Chrome takes to run then. haha. I am still trying out Kiwi browser, but I might switch back to Chrome Canary in the future.

i use ether Chrome or Samsung browser.

honestly on my older phone i had additional browsers but since i got my A71 running the new android i kind of want to keep as Native to the phone as possible. so its only Chrome and Samsung browser.

i know of the high RAM usage of Chrome on desktop and did not realize the same was happening on mobile. that may be the only reason i stop using Chrome.

Yeah, unfortunately, the RAM usage on Chrome even on mobile is on the higher side. Sure, Chrome has a TON of add-on features, password mangers, etc, but I have also been playing around with Samsung Internet browser and Firefox Focus. Firefox Focus browser is a nice choice. It's private (even though I'm not exactly going after the privacy aspect of things), it is small in app size, and I'm now testing out the RAM usage of it.

That seems crazy to me. I've got Chrome open with 22 tabs open and it's using 315MB. How many tabs do you have open? Are they all in desktop mode?
