Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

I'm overall pretty happy with mine. Before I got it I was concerned about battery life but I started out with 4G disabled (to get a baseline) and got a solid 15 hours out of the phone yesterday. Knowing that battery life can improve over the first 1-2 weeks I think I'll be fine with that aspect of it.

The two issues I'm having are related to the physical attributes of the device.

First is about the physical layout of what buttons there are. The last several smart phones I've had all had the power button on the top. I always thought it would be more convenient to have it on the side but now that I've had the Nexus I quickly realized that with the power button completely opposite the volume rocker I find myself changing the volume when I go to press the power button (because my hand is wrapped around the phone so you squeeze one side...you put pressure on the other as well.

Second is that I find the back of the phone to be too smooth. With the device being larger the phone feels a little less stable in my hand...as though it will slide out of I'm not particular about the way I hold it. I had planned not to use a case for this phone but because of this I think I'm going to have to find a very thin silicon cover just to add some texture.

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

^ I used mine on a 4 hour trip and it was plugged into This and it was 100% when I arrived.

But there is something to be said, if I had it plugged into the cig lighter even my old Droid X would loose charge, but if I had it plugged into the 150watt max plug I have no issues. Even on my Nexus

Only issue I have with this phone is the Volume Rocker, while it looks nice its pretty annoying. Also having it inline with the Power Button frustrates me sometimes since I hit both at the same time and the phone does nothing , when lets say I want to turn off the screen.

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

I had the screen lock sound enabled, but there is no sound. It acts like it will play something, but it is just low level static. Also, if I plug in the charger in the car while it is playing through the headphone jack there is a bit of distortion for only a second, so I disabled it. Honestly both of these things don't bother me at all. I love the phone though.

My Nexus is absolutely perfect. No screen issues. LTE seems to be great. Battery life is what it is. I have ONE issue...

The speaker pops audibly a couple of seconds after any sound is played through it. I know, every device has this in some way or another. My Galaxy Tab has this for instance. But it's quite audible on the Nexus. And what drives me nuts is that I'm an audio engineer, and I guess I'm kinda trained to pick this kinda stuff out, which is making it 100 times more irritating than it should be!

Still kind of thinking about it. I can easily exchange it for a new one, but this one is perfect ASIDE from the pop. I would hate to give it up and get one with screen banding or poor LTE connection.

To bad they all can't be good.

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

Lag when typing in landscape, stuttering when switching between screens in the app drawer, and the audible "pop" sound someone else has mentioned in this thread.

Same problem here, and I am using Windows XP SP3. I wanted to transfer lots of mp3, mp4, and jpg's to test resolution and video quality. I plug into usb port, I can see the files on my pc, copy them, but when I go to right click to paste them the option is not there. I can see the galaxy nexus files, I just can't paste anything in the folders from my PC.

As a matter of fact, my issue was mysteriously solved on the second day. Maybe because I started using my OEM USB cable which came with my GN, instead of generic cable? Now, I am just fine transferring MP3, MP4 files to/from my GN. Also, try rebooting your GN if you haven't since 4.0.2 update. It solved many of my other minor issues, too.

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

When I'm playing music through google music, a lot of times it doesn't play the album songs chronologically and skips around. This may be the music service and not the phone.

You probably need to go to Google Music and edit the album info. Make sure all the tracks are numbered correctly. It also makes a difference if some of the tracks on an album have disc numbers and others from that same album don't.

Just fine in Verizon store. But here at home, where I usually had 3 bars on 3G I have only 1 on 4G at best but most of the time it drops to 3G with only 1 bar, occasionally 2. Very disappointed. Here is something else. This is the last phone I will buy without a removable Memory card- or at least a way to partition part of internal storage as one. It shows up on file managers as an SD card but I had some word and excel files on there. Today, trying to get 4G to work, tech support had me do a factory reset and I find that those files are erased as well. I backed up apps and data but the files did not come back. I may stick with this phone, but if I had known this to this degree going in, I would have waited to upgrade. Luckily I still have copies of the files on the SD card in my Fascinate.

In terms of the signal, 3G and 4G utilize the different signals. So, at the same place, same time, 4G and 3G signals will be different. That's why I do not compare signal strength between 3G phone and 4G phone.

Re: Summary of current issues of GN

There is a bug/solution thread that adresses these issues; precieved or real, are there. Thanks for the opinion though:D

Thanks for your advice. I will post mine also to the bug tracker thread.:D

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

My only complaint is that the speaker is way too weak.

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

Lag when typing in landscape, stuttering when switching between screens in the app drawer, and the audible "pop" sound someone else has mentioned in this thread.

SwiftKey X Just completely fixed my typing issue... and it's a badass keypad!!!! As far as the stuttering, I have found that to happen as well, intermittently.

First of all, I want to comment that I came from HTC Thunderbolt. Before that, I used D1 and DX.

I have seen many reviews and comments about the performance of GN during the last two days, and wanted to comment my personal opinion on them.

1. Low Signal Strength: Yes, this seems to exist. I still have three more Thunderbolt in my family and was able to compare signal strength of my GN with others. There is obvious signal strength difference between my GN (averaging between 90 and 105dBm) and my other Thunderbolts (averaging between 80 and 90dBm), at the same location, same time. Signal bars are also one or two bars lower, but as most of you are aware, I really don't care for the number of bars. Speedtest results also shows not much difference. At the same time, same location, same server, difference of the speed was negligible. Of course, test results were variable and I don't think we can simply rely on this.
=> Ok. It DOES SEEM LIKE THE SIGNAL STRENGTH IS WEAKER. Am I going to be worried about it? Maybe. Will this be a deal breaker? Not for me. I experienced the exact same problem when I started using my Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt also didn't have a decent signal strength and reliability to lock on 4G at its earlier baseband (a.k.a. radio software). There have been many upgrades of its baseband so far, and it seem a lot more reliable now. I believe that, though radio itself is hardware property and any hardware fault (if there is any) may limit its improvement, I am confident that there will be some improvement of signal strength in the future on my GN. Plus, I still don't have any problem locking on my 4G, browsing internet, downloading audio/video at this moment.

2. Poor battery life: Unlike many others on the foum, I am not worried about this battery life at all. Maybe because I came from my Thunderbolt, I guess. If you came from D1, D2, DX, or other 3G phones to GN, please consider that 4G drains battery almost as twice as it used to with 3G. When using 4G, being at the fringe area especially guzzle your juice. Also, screen is another factor. 1280x720 resolution will surely eat up more juice than 840x480, from GPU and AMOLED itself. Also, in AMOLED, brighter colored screen consume significant amount than darker colored screen (not just brightness itself, but also colors).
=>Considering these two factors (4G & resolution), I already expected that 1800mAh would show pretty much the same usage time as my previous Thunderbolt. I was right. My GN is showing exactly the same usage time as I expected. This can be variable depending on your usage habit, though. Try to turn off data while sleep mode. There are many ways to do that (Ex: Juice Defender, etc). Try to stay with Wifi when available. Try to use darker colored background. Try to use automatic brightness function. Good habit will probably improve your time almost twice. At least, it did in my case. There is possibility that this battery life also may improve in the future with update from Google. How much? Unfortunately, it is not much as some other member mentioned previously. But, considering that this is a newly announced machine, I surely expect some improvement in the nearest future.

3. Screen: I see many members complaining about the screen of GN. Though it took a while for me with mine, I am totally fine with the screen of my GN. Many of complaints I heard so far were the nature of AMOLED display (Ex: blue hue). Of course, Each display may be different and there might be some units with out of average characteristics. Some units may have extra bluish than others. Some units may have stronger vertical/horizontal lines showing up at the darkest brightness.
=>If you feel that your unit is out of ordinary screen, I suggest you try getting a replacement. If you think the replacement unit or other people's GN also looks the same, you might want to go with a different model with IPS display. AMOLED may not be a good fit for you. For me, this is my first experience with AMOLED. I felt a little bit of weirdness at the beginning. However, I am getting used to it now. I don't seem to have any out of ordinary characteristics on my GN's display, fortunately.

4. Speaker Volume: Fortunately, I couldn't experience this with my GN at all. Comparing with my three other Thunderbolts, Speaker volume of my GN is just about the same. However, since many other members were complaining about it, it seems like some units have weaker speaker than expected by their owners. I admit that the default ringtone and notification tone of GN sounds a little bit soft, though. After changing it to my own ringtones, I have not experienced any issue so far. Plus, I believe that an app called "Volume+" does the trick for those who are experiencing troubles.
=> If the Volume+ makes the speaker louder, it also means that the software update could do that, too. So, I will see how it goes with the 4.0.3 update. Also, let me remind you (if you came from D1 or DX), D1 and DX have relatively louder speaker than any other android phones I have experienced so far.

As stated above, all four of currently discussed issues didn't stop me from keeping my GN. I personally experience some other issues, such as US file transfer problem and Bluetooth audio streaming trouble, both of which were solved on the same day of my GN purchase.

Let me remind you once again that this is purely my personal experience and opinion. Since every phone is different, there will be people who are experiencing these issues heavier than others. I believe I am at the lucky side of people. Those who are experiencing issue obviously deserve to complain about them. I just wanted to give those people a little bit of heads up about what they could possibly get about their GNs, and what they could expect about their GNs in the future. I also wanted to remind people that some of their complaints were the nature of some technologies applied to this phone model. For those, maybe you had better get used to it. What if you can't? No biggie. You can always simply walk away from your choice and get a differnt phone, such as Rezound or RAZR, by January 15, 2012.

I do the SAME thing! I'm starting to get better at only hitting one or the other though. Who knew that practice was required to use a phone. :p

A 'Smartphone' was named after its qualification requirement to use. Be smart. :D

I'm having text to speech problems

I recently installed Light Flow so I could change the style of LED notifications. After I installed this app, I noticed that text to speech seems to be enabled and my web browser starts reciting the articles or news or any website I'm browsing, and it's incredibly annoying.

Is this happening to anyone else and if so were you able to fix it or does anyone know how to fix text to speech / turn it completely off??

Thanks

I am having the same problem and it is driving me NUTS

Has anyone else found a solution???

Re: What little problems do u notice with your Nexus?

I noticed coming from a Verizon Fascinate, the GN speaker cover/grill is flat, so its more likely to have its sound muffled when audio plays by your hand, table or pocket. The Fascinate speaker cover/grill had a very small bump in the plastic that allowed the audio to come out easier. I installed Volume Plus and have it set on 8 until a rom/bug fix amps up the volume.

I get a very annoying lag when I exit my app drawer to the home screen. after being in the app drawer for a few seconds and exit to the home screen it will often lag during the transition. It looks horrible when showing phone off to friends. I was able to capture a screen shot. anyone else experience this?

Not the same, but similar thing also had happened to me earlier. When I press the app drawer button, some specific page of the app drawer had some missing icons as if they were gone. After a while, however, they are back when I checked again. I am still trying to figure ouw what was the cause.
