Bump charging is alive and well...

What is bump charging?

Is when you charge at night and the battery gets fully charged then switches the charge to your phone only instead of continuing to charge your battery through the night.

So the effect it has is that when you unplug your phone the actual charge drops a bit since it was not charging for the last few hours.

The theory is that it gives your battery a longer life cycle since your not continuing the change through the night.

Does this need to be done every time you charge for it to be effective or just once in a while?

You don't have to do it. It is the default. Some people don't like that if their phone is doing stuff at night after it has been charged that when they unplug it they see it drop from 100% The solution there is to turn the phone off while it is charging, so when it is done it doesnt draw any more power. That works when i am at home, but not when i am on the road. You can also make sure that it isnt checking email etc. every 5 minutes all night... I have decided not to worry about it figuring that a well conditioned battery will last longer on 98% than a poorly conditioned battery at 100%

I'm hearing that the 2750 mah battery that Verizon sell is very good, I think it costs 50 dollars downside is it's bulky but IMO i will take bulky over a dead phone any day.

I'm always around a charger and I plan on buying an extra battery anyway. I don't like adding bulk to an already large phone.

Bump charging gets REALLY old -- fast. I can't imagine someone choosing to bump charge every day for the next year or more instead of buying an extended battery. lol.

To each his own (pain), I guess.

Anyone coming from a Motorola phone experience this? I wonder if it's just a HTC thing or if it's an Android thing in general.

Technically, you only need to do it once.
