Burn in

Hey everyone, so I recently traded some guy an iPhone SE and a KEY2 LE for a Pixel 2 XL, and the phone works fine except that the screen seems to have a pink-ish tint, and if I turn on night mode, it gets way too yellow, even with minimum intensity.
But more annoyingly, there is a burn in of the "G" of "Google" right in the middle of the screen along with 4 round dots across it, and I tried playing burn-in fix videos from YouTube a few times now, and hasn't seemed to help.

And yes, I saw this defect before doing the trade but went through it anyways cause I was bored of the iPhone and already had another KEY2 LE.

So, is the only solution to replace the screen/digitizer assembly ?
(Damn I wish these were Samsung AMOLED's instead of LG).

More importantly, would I lose the IP rating if I do so? (Im comfortable swapping it out myself).

Only way to fix it is to do a screen replacement. Pretty sure you will lose any IP cert by doing it as well, especially if you do it yourself.

Dang it, what's so special about the way they assemble it in the factories that makes the phone water resistant as opposed to when it's self repaired or at a phone shop!?

Can try contact Google see if they replace it under warranty.

The adhesive they use at the factory provides the water resistance. Using tape wouldnt provide that same seal.

Not the first owner or even the second.

Not sure if better to have a pink-ish screen with the "G" right there in the middle or a perfect display and no IP rating.

My other phones are both Berry's so if I'm gonna have a slab of glass, I might as well have one that has the advantage of being water resistant lol

You shouldn't have been so impulsive, your gut was warning you lol. The pixel 2xl's are well known for their screen issues.... so well known that Google doubled the warranty on them. That's the only reason I'm passing up on the killer sales this year on the 2xl... I don't trust the phone's overall quality enough to take a chance on one. I'm going to pass on the 3 as well for the same reasons. I sure hope the pixel 4's come out of the gate with less issues. It looks like it might be a few years before I buy my next pixel :O Good thing my current one is pretty new and going strong ;-)

I got 3+ years out of my Moto x pure and it's still working great..... I retired it prematurely because I wanted a pixel lol. I'm very careful with my charging habits and I get great life out of my phones ;-)

For what it's worth, any AMOLED screen can burn in, even Samsungs.

Personally, I don't care about IP ratings. They are based on specific lab tests and not real world use, making them little more than a marketing gimmick. I'd rather replace the screen than maintain the IP rating, especially if the warranty already expired.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on an AMOLED digitizer assembly, there are a few on eBay and Amazon but those on Amazon don't have great reviews, I'd like an OEM one with a more recent assembly date.

Either way, after seeing MrMobile and JerryRigEverything video on how IP rated phones aren't really water resistant... I guess I wouldn't be missing much
