My daughters LGV40 normally have all 3 buttons at the bottom of the screen but sometimes only one is showing.
When I try to press the remaining button nothing happens and in the end I restart the phone to get the buttons back.
What kind of setting could this be and how do I disable it?
I attach a screenshot when it happened last. The only button that is visible is the back button by the lower right corner of the picture.
Nothing happens when it is pressed.

Welcome to Android Central! The nav buttons are probably auto-hiding. When they disappear, can you bring them back by swiping up a little from the bottom of the screen?

Thank you for your welcome and suggestion.
No they are not auto-hiding. As you can see from the screenshot one button is still there and if they where auto-hiding no button would be there. I have toggled the auto-hiding setting and the same behavior exist. This screenshot is actually from when auto-hiding were enabled and I swiped to get the button and then took the screenshot (you had to be fast). Here is how it looks with all the buttons. Perhaps it is not a setting, could this be that some interface crashed or that it is buggy? If so is there a way to kill it and restart it without restarting the phone?

Oh, that was silly of me -- when I first looked at your initial screenshot, I was only concentrating on the bottom of the screen (in landscape orientation), not the right side! Now I see what you're talking about.

Is this only in certain apps (like that game)?

I bet there is a bug on the V40 with the navigation bar. I haven't had an update in a while (Of course, LG) and the last security update is Sep 2020..

I am having a different issue with the nav bar. The buttons show but don't respond to when I press them. I have rebooted and cleared system cache but nothing works.

@B. Diddy: Actually I just noticed that I wrote that the back button should have been in the lower left corner. So looking there naturally you would have thought that I had not activated the buttons. I corrected the mistake.

My daughter says that the buttons normally disappear after extensive game play.
To my knowledge this has happened for a month or two.
She can not say that a specific game makes it more than others.
It would perhaps help if there were a tracking program that could be used so I could see what game were played last and to what extent before the buttons disappear. But I have not looked in to fixing it, If you have a suggestion I'm all ears.
She also says that if the buttons disappears and she immediately presses the back button it works and she can get out of the game but she does not get the other buttons back. After a while the back button stops working even if it is still on the screen (like when I took the screenshot).
To my knowledge all other functions work flawlessly.

Could it be that some app is using the 'overscan' command and their input is buggy?
see article https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/02/21/android-11-kills-apps-that-modify-the-navigation-bar/

If there is a bug with the stock LG-rom perhaps I should flash an other rom to it. If so what would you suggest and what rooting method is good, do you know?
