Buy 6P now or wait till after holidays?

IMO - if you want the pure Android experience - it's the 6p, the Pixels, or any Moto phone. Hopefully the 6p will go down in price for the holidays. I have a 32 GB 6p since last November. For $500 back then, I still consider it a bargain and it's a shame the Pixels are expensive.

If I was buying a new phone today, I'd go for the new Moto Z Play via the Motorola website or as a Verizon exclusive for around $400. It's a mid range phone with good specs and from what I hear, it has the best battery life at the moment. You also have mod options with the Moto Z line.

Here's a good review on it...

Good suggestion, but in addition to the pure Android experience, I'm looking to make the jump to Google Fi so Verizon would be out (I've been a longtime Sprint subscriber since the Motorola 4 color dot matrix flip phone. Probably just REALLY dated myself right there, lol). My bill would be minimal with Fi since I usually have wifi access and I'm not a heavy data user.

Thanks for the suggestion though...

I actually had the Moto Z Force through Verizon before I quit them. I loved the Z Force and the mods were actually very good. Especially the battery and speaker mod. I can tell you from now having both phones, the 6p is a lot like having the Z Force. I believe the 6p will be a bit better overall device than the Z Play but still very close and as far as software interface, they the Moto and 6p are almost identical. At times I forget I have the 6p and still think I have my Moto Z Force. I didn't like the regular Moto Z. It was actually too thin. So much that it felt odd. The Z Play is going to feel much better to hold after you either put a style shell on back or battery mod on. Between the Z Force and now the 6p I have, I have to give the honor to the Z Force. That was one dang good device. It's costly though and the money you pay for a 6p far exceeds the honor that the Z Force had over the 6p BC it wasnt by much at all. I like innovation so the mods were great to me. You could change the look of your phone anytime by the cheap style shells and you NEVER ran out of battery life if you opted to put the battery mod on. I've tried a lot of devices and hands down the Moto Z line up and the 6p are the best devices I've used hands down!

If you get out of the habit of charging your device to 100%, and don't rely on rapid charging (except on occasion), you won't have to worry about exceeding the number of charge cycles on your battery. Feel free to check out AccuBattery https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s?id=com.digibites.accubattery&token=j2xKaXct (specifically, look at the links they provide in their tutorial, for how to extend your battery longevity) as one reference. Or read through the materials at Battery University
I forgot to post and say "thank you" for referring me to that app. Very useful/helpful. Quick question, does rapid charging shorten battery life if still only charging to 80%? Thanks again...

Short answer - no. Charging to 100% shouldn't affect battery life either. 99.9% of people (in 1st world countries) plug phone in when go to bed & leave them in all night (myself included). If you are using the stock charger you are probably using "fast charging". If you really want to know about batteries I would suggest going to Battery U. web site & read about batteries (not just the first page). They really have some excellent info. (not only about phone batteries but also other types (car batteries etc.)

GSDer referred me to the Accubattery app which has been very useful for me. Although the technical background on some of this is beyond me, the developers do refer to Battery U and other articles regarding charging's impact on battery life. They surmise that charging to 100% is detrimental and recommend an ideal of charging to 80%. Some good information on that can be found here:

"Choi 2002 shows that the constant voltage part is the most harmful to a battery, charging to 4.2V itself using constant current at 1C doesn't degrade it too badly, but by holding the battery at that voltage for an additional time causes most of the damage to the cell."

This is the key take... And something I've been trying to explain to people for months... Charge to 100%. But don't leave the thing on the charger, banging away at 100% for hours on end. That's bad news. These things charge so quickly, there's no need to have them charge overnight.
