Hello all,,hopefully a soon to be owner of an EVO:)...My question is having owned launch day Pre with bugs and quality issues is it best to wait?????... I really want this phone but I am happy with Pre now with patches and overclocking..Not sure of build quality of HTC having never owned one.....So with Froyo coming out and to the Evo,,, but time uncertain and any possible production problems (light showing) that may need to get corrected over time is it best to wait :(or just get it on 4th :)....

After being burned by the Pre I'm going to hold off a month or so and see what kind of complaints crop up here. I am so ready to get rid of this Pre, its my third refurb and the screen is about ready to break in two.

pre was different. It was a first time OS and device release. HTC has made many fine android and winmo phones.

If you keep waiting for the latest thing, youll never actually end up buying anything.

It's always funny to see people on forums about technology say "ill be waiting for the latest XYZ", because they never buy anything and go into every thread where osmeone did get something and say "yeah thats cool but im gonna wait for XYZ". Its a never ending cycle.

thanks for quick answers except cmon,,,what he said stuff..I am looking for quality input not short answers like cmon you don't know this already or search the thread stuff...if you have any real input answer if not go to next thread...

This.

HTC's made hardware before.
Sense UI just like in the Incredible, Hero, etc.

So it's not a completely new thing.

I'm thinking about waiting also, actually I wish everyone would wait and force a timely 2.2 update, as it is though, everyone will buy it and I'm sure htc nor sprint will have any reason to rush the update out at that point....

Got my hero on its release day and it has been rock solid. build quality is def. not something im going to think twice about.

I am going to wait too. But, my reason is a little different. Sprint s?????d up my account and switched primary and secondary accounts on my without my knowledge. It is too long to go into. I have to order through telesales to be able to get it, possibly. Plus, I was day one Pre, and I think I want to try this time before I buy. Put it in my hand, try it out. See if it will fit in front pocket. See if I will like Android. Call it buyers remorse. Went through 5 Pre's before I got the one I have been using for the year. Still problems with resetting, too many cards open. Want to make sure there are no problems with EVO (light leakage or any other problems) before I buy. It seems like a good phone, just want to be patient this time.

Don't forget that this device has been in testing for over a year. They made sure this phone didn't flop and things like the light leakage are the result of using bright led lights.

I've already had the Evo for 3 days, and no issues yet. Runs rock solid. I've had a Pre since launch day, too. While I loved the Pre and never had any major problems with it, I think it's safe to say that you'll be fine with an Evo on launch day.

Evo preordered(2nd) at Radio Shack here and will be there at store opening on the 4th!!

Hell yeah!!! lol

As stated by others.. seriously... come on..

Froyo was not even in the cards when we first heard about the phone and I (do not want to put words in your mouth) was drooling over it. Froyo is not going to change the world, there are some tweaks but nothing earth shattering. I too bought the pre on release and think webOs is heads and shoulders over anthing else out there.. BUT (big but) as has been stated, poor development, poor hardware, updates have given some improved funtionality but decreased peformance.. The rumors of the next have been floating around for months, it was actually supposed to be annouced months ago but nothing.

You want to wait for froyo on the evo.. but no Motoanola is coming out with the badmother and that is powered by the 6 terahertz unicorn 80 core processor PLUS it will run chocolate starfish 4.5... but it will not be out for another 6 months.. what to do..

Every piece of technology has a flaw or does not perform to someones ideal, that is why you have the choice of buying what is out now or waiting for the 'next' update or gadget. As others have stated, HTC has been making phones for awhile and android has been around for awhile with great support, apps and functions. This has been said a million times also.. The Evo is a new phone with expandable memory and a powerful processor that will last through several software updates but if you are not happy you are on Sprint and can upgrade again in a year..

I'm not worried because HTC has been pumping out phones for a long time. The Pre was a new design from on old name, but they cut too many corners and basically screwed their early adopters. (It's like what happened with the Xbox 360.) With no new webOS handsets on the horizon and little hope for a quantum leap in the OS in the cards - no pun intended - folks like me are about to abandon Palm, probably to oblivion, but I don't think any of us are too worried about getting buggy software or chintzy junk on the hardware side.

My "phone history" has been very interesting over the last 6 months.

First, my old Sprint contract ended last December. I'd been thinking about what phone to get at that time... I even thought about an iphone ...for about 5 minutes. Then the Motorola Droid came out and for a while it seemed the most likely candidate. As soon as that came out, word arrived of a new super phone, the Nexus One...so I waited a few weeks for that to show up. When it did, I bought it.

The AT&T service sucked so bad in my area that I sent that back and went back to Sprint on my old Treo 755p and planned to wait until the Spring release of the N1 on Verizon. Well, we all know what happened to that.

Then word came out about another super phone from Verizon, the Incredible. So I decided to wait until it came out and got it the weekend it came out, knowing that there was another super phone, the Evo, on the horizon. After a couple of weeks with the Incredible, I returned it due to the poor reception inside my workplace and the auto-scrolling screen.

Now, I'm waiting for the Evo next week. No way I'm waiting any longer. I've been "waiting" for the last 6 months for my next phone...can't wait any more. I've even arranged to take the day off and be at the RS when they open at 10...gonna take the whole day to set it up to my liking.

Can't wait. And yes, I know it's just a "phone," but what a helluva phone it is.
