So I've been wanting to get the S4, but I prefer stock Android and I love the specs of the S4. The thing is its not like I have $650 laying around the house. So my plan is to renew my contract with a normal S4 from AT&T and then sell it on eBay. Anyone else done this? Any drawbacks I should be aware of?

PS: I don't want a Nexus.

Not crazy.
My plan is to sell my few-week-old Verizon GS4 and get a Dev Edition one. I don't feel like dealing with all the tutorials, hacks, etc to hack into bootloader.

If you don't mind being in a contract, why not buy the s4 from your carrier and root and flash? The GE roms are already out, and you would save more than $400. People need to not be scared of rooting....it literally takes 10 minutes to save you $400.

IMO, the google edition phones are best for people who do not want to be tied to a contract and reap the benefits on a cheaper plan (with t-mobile or a GSM carrier) or people who cannot upgrade and would pay the same price

There is no point. Already 4.2 roms out and even adding mods to it if people want or keeping it bone dry. And a 4.3 ROM was leaked. Thats being flashed. I would prefer the TW S4 with the option to use either TW Roms or GE Roms. Just me.

I might just stick with the non-GE S4. Not being able to save pictures directly to the SD card sucks. I'll probably get the 32GB version and root it, oh well.

It's not a bad idea if you are planning to stay with your carrier and sign another 2 year contract anyway.

I know one person who does something similar. He has 4 lines and he always buy the latest iPhone whenever is out for all 4 lines. He keeps two phones and sells the other two phones on ebay. Usually he will make a profit of 500-600 dollar, he older model of iPhones goes to his kids.

Unless you can get the S4 retail price (which probably won't happen considering all the used devices for sale and fees you'll have pay) you'll still end up paying probably around $250-300 (at least for it). When you can just pay $200 and flash the ROM on it. But hey, whatever floats your boat.
