Buy the Note 3 or wait for 4??

This close to the public presentation (and, one would hope, release), I'd at least wait and see what the 4 has to offer. That said, smartphones (be they Android or iOS) are pretty much a commodity now, with little wiggle room left for something earth-shattering amazing suddenly showing up. If nothing else, the anticipated release should dramatically drop the price of the 3 (outright purchase or by plan) to an attractive level - and there's very little truly wrong with the 3 (that probably won't be replicated in the 4).

Meanwhile, if you are constantly waiting for the 'next big thing' to show up before buying in, you never will - or will have a drawer full of 'last week's model' - and that's stupid.

Have the note 3 in hand and it's awesome! I can only imagine what the 4 will be like. I'm happy I decided to grab a 3 to test drive before the 4 because I can confirm that the size is manageable, and screen and battery are welcomed increases. So, don't worry about getting a 3, take my word it's awesome. Just wait and grab a 4 in two months.

Would it be better to trade the S5 for a N3, that way you don't waste the upgrade? It'll also give you an opportunity to play with the device over a period of time to make a more inform decision as well as a comparison when the N3 actually comes out. Just a thought.

The more I read the rumor mills, the more it makes sense to wait if you have an s5.

The s5 should, "in theory" hold its value the next few months as compared to a note 3. Note three will drop in price right after the note 4 release. S5 shouldn't or at least not as badly.

I'm going to take a hit when I resell this note 3 in a few months, but I can do that because I'm going to sign a new contract and get the n4 subsidized. I'll sell this note 3 for 250-350 and get a note 4 for 300-350, so it's almost a wash.

If you are not signing a contract, you'll pay 350 for a Note 3 or trade like you said, sell it for 300.... You'll probably sell you s5 for 400/500...

Now, if you can find someone who buys a note 4 and decides that they don't like the size, you may be able to trade your s5 + 100 or something for their note 4. That's probably the best move...

If you really want to try a note, buy one for 350 that is in mint condition off swappa, and keep your s5 locked up for two months, sell the note 3 for 250/300 later, you'll lose 50/100 for your curiosity. Trade or sell your s5 for a new note 4... In the end, they are just phones and toys.... Do what you can afford. There is always the next big thing around the corner!

I am searching also, have an iphone 5s now, any reason you don't want to keep the s5?

Hi I really like and love the Note 3 but I'm buying the Note 4 too as I need 2 phones as I'm a mobile phone online seller and I need 2 phones

Ulimate Note 3

I'm waiting for the Note 4 intro to see exactly what the differences are between the 3 & 4 but right now I'm leaning towards the 3 because Amazon had them for $99 on a 2 yr AT&T upgrade ($149 as of today but I wouldn't pay more than $99). I'm thinking the 4 will be in the $3-400 price range on a 2 yr upgrade and I'm thinking I can't justify the price difference.

As far as 2 yr contract upgrades I must be missing something when I read posts saying people wouldn't do that. Considering you need service and it costs the same whether month by month or on a 2 yr contract why wouldn't anyone take advantage of the reduced upgrade price?

So most of you will think I am really 'outdated' but I still love love love my Note 2! Past phones, I have been ready in a 1-1/12 to go new, but this phone has been amazing.....With that said, I do Not have to be 'the one' with the newest and best, rather what works for me, and I do use my phone a LOT for business. I do stay updated for the most part and on contract as I have 2 UDP lines and 2 dummy lines, to switch off upgrades to.

I still think the Note 3 is also an amazing phone and definitely upgraded from the N2.....and at $99 vs. the N4 being around $299-350 (on contract) when it launches and until the next generation comes out. I am fine with updating to the N3 and stay one behind.....I too agree that you don't have to wait for accessories and such to show up and bugs being worked out in a brand new model either....

I am personally waiting for the Note 4 to be released so I can buy the Note 3. My reasons are totally economic, as I want to get this phone for the best price possible. Both Costco and Amazon had the Note 3 for $99 (actually $149 less $50 rebate) for a while, but now, as reported above, it's $149 with no rebate. Some time ago AT&T and Best Buy had the Note 3 for $199 (while Costco was offering it for $179); now AT&T and Best Buy are asking $229 for the Note 3. I don't understand how the pricing works! I just hope it comes down after the release of the Note 4. Buying it under $100 would be sweet.

I said it before, I paid 340 for a used note 3 and don't regret the purchase. I'm not sure I'll upgrade to the Note 4 either.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a phone that meets my needs to stick with for more than a year to 18 months. But, the note 3 ticks a lot of boxes and it may be a keeper. I'd sure like a keeper so I stop spending cash! Maybe put that cash toward a note 12.

Anyway, battery life for me is stellar. Not that I have high standards, but I'm making it through the day with decent use and I don't need to charge it until bed. This is the first phone to do that for me (iPhone 4, galaxy s3, nexus 4, nexus 5, and other old Windows phones before android and ios). The other phones I listed needed a charge by 3pm.

I also have big hands and this phone is the best size for me. I can use one hand most of the time. But, I've yet to try a 5.9 device, so who knows on that front.

Camera is great, but I would like ois. I would also like a brighter screen like the s5, but the note 3 isn't terrible in sun, just not great. But these are minor things in my daily use.

This is really a great device.

I'd like to see what they have improved over the Note 3.
If it's added RAM or more memory and speed, I have more than I need already !
It's going to have to be a real wiz - bang improvement or I'll keep my N3!

This. Upgrades are becoming less and less compelling every year. If it just brings a snapdragon 801 and a 16mp camera I'll definitely skip it.

I`m lucky in that I have my S3 for my work phone and my Note 3 for my leisure phone. If there was a big leap in specs with the new N4 then I`d relegate my N3 to work use and N4 for leisure but as things stand,I`m more than happy. It really would have to be a massive change in specs for me to upgrade.I don`t think that this time around that we`ll get a big change.

I'm really loving my note 3, almost one year after i bought it.

Note 4 should be great, but so far i don't see appealing reason to upgrade from my note 3.

But if you can choose, definitely go with new one, unless its massive screen resolution hurry battery life somehow.
