By time the EVO comes out......

Sprint's customer service still sucks, lol. Just the other day I was chatting with a rep trying to find out if I'll be able to charge the Evo to my account when it's released or if I will have to have the funds readily available on my credit card. They said the only way they would be able to tell me is if they actually tried to charge it on my account. And since it isn't for sale yet, they can't give me an answer.

So I still have no idea if I will need to have a certain amount available on my credit card- which nobody can tell me how much yet, or if I will simply be able to charge it to my account and then pay for it on my monthly bill.

And they are like this with everything. I can't remember the last time they actually helped me with something. Every time I contact them it turns out to be a huge waste of my time.

Last year when the Pre came out I was able to add it to my account with no problem. I have had nothing but good things with Sprint CS. They have taken care of my few issues with speed. I love the chat line with CS. I have changed three phones since the Pre and have done all of them via the chat.

And that's what a lot of people forget. The EVO will be on Sprint! Not the best service in the world. On top of that 4g isn't everywhere. It will only benfit those in the select cities. That's why I don't get why everyone is excited about this phone. Its main feature isn't available to everyone.

I disagree, Sprint has been GREAT for me and I have had them over 3 years now. Maybe you are just in a bad area.

4G should be coming to my area by the end of the year but I honestly don't care. 3G is fine by me, it is fast enough for all my apps and web browsing.

About the only thing I can see a REAL need for 4G is streaming YouTube in hi-def but how often will I really need to do that? Sure faster is always better and browsing will improve but I tether my laptop now over 3G with my Pre and it is very fast now!

If 4G costs more I will just run in with 3G and will be very happy! If 4G gets here and costs the same, cool!

its main feature? 4g is DEFINITELY NOT its main feature. 1ghz snapdragon processor, HDMI out, front facing camera, android, etc are FAR GREATER features then 4g. Like you said 4g is hardly anywhere and its their selling point to select customers. to be quiet honest 99% of user who get this phone wont even utilize 4g to its full potential.

edit: to add the that its the ignorance of customers that 4g advertisements sell to. I mean honestly, people leave AT&T because of the "Verizon vs AT&T" 3G commercials because they think that the maps are referring to service, 3G is NOT SERVICE, IT IS DATA. majority of customers on networks don't even use data. Ever notice the commercials?? They are all making phone calls and then the maps shows above their head? again, these advertisements make people think that 3G has to do with service.

I completely agree, the onlything i need 4g for would be video chat, and I can just do it in wifi areas.

I've never had a problem with Sprint. And on top of that theres a lot of other main features the Evo has except for 4G.

The design
8 Megapixel Camera
1Ghz Processor
4.3 Inch screen

These are all reasons why I'm getting it, not just because of 4G.

Depends on release. If the release is June 16th, then the iPhone 4 will beat them to it.

I don't know about that...

I know there is a lot of speculation that a new iPhone is going to be announced in early June, but that doesn't mean it will be for sale at that time. If we're just going by when the phone is announced, then the Evo was announced back at CTIA so it's already the first American phone with a secondary, front facing camera.

Apple has traditionally released new iPhones in late June or early July. And the CDMA version isn't even expected to go into mass production until September:

So if the Evo releases in early to mid June, it will still be the first with a secondary, front camera. The sales might be lower than Sprint hopes though if Apple announces the iPhone first, and all the apple fanboys opt to wait for that instead.

So I'm jumping the At&t and Iphone ship. I really want to go to a android phone. So I figured the Evo would be perfect. I'm kind of confused on why its taking Sprint so long to get the phone out to the market. Its losing a lot of steam right now....With the Incredible coming out and the Iphone coming out soon, Sprint is sure to lose those customers that were going to go to them just because of the Evo. I know there will always be a bigger and better phone coming out every other month it seems, but come on Sprint. I guess I'm impatient. So in closing on my mini rant, should I hold out for the EVO even though my city doesn't have 4G?

Good, leave. I find it funny that people are SO impatient they can't wait 1 or 2 months for a phone. AT&T is a ****ty service provider with outrageous prices. Enjoy paying them!

IIRC the 3GS released on June 19th and the 3G on the 11th. I don't think June 7th is out of the question. But if Sprint learned anything the Pre launch is give yourself some space from the iPhone release. However, the release of the Pre and Evo are a bit different, so who knows. I still think the release will be sometime late this month.

I think he was trying to say that he is leaving AT&T and the fruit phone for the Evo, but he is not entirely sure yet?

Yeah, the Pre made a big splash, but was entirely new, and it didn't have that much to offer in the hardware department and there was not App Catalog yet, well, there was, but only 12 apps in it. They started from scratch.

On the other hand, the Evo is using a well accepted OS, has a huge amount of apps, and has top of the line hardware. The big screen will sell the phone all by itself, at least to the cell phone junkies were bigger is always better. It might be a turn off to certain people, but in general, bigger is better.

So yes, I agree, the release for the Pre and Evo is quite a bit different.

They're holding out because they want 4G to be in as many big cities as possible when they release it. Wimax is supposed to add a bunch of places by summer.

Yeah Sprint has a list of cities on their site somewhere. Check out their 4g page.
I hope it comes by Columbia, SC... where I go to school.

i seriously doubt sprint is delaying the release of the evo for further 4G rollout.

Sprint has one of the best networks hands down however. If you are in their coverage area (which a lot of the major metro areas are) you will love the network. I've done testing with all of the major carriers, and Sprint is definitely the best. Verizon is close, but not as consistent as Sprint.

Sprint is doing the same thing they did with the Pre. Waiting until June. If I'm not mistaken, some of the iPhone contracts (first adopters) are close to being up in June as well. They are thinking that is the best time to try to get folks to jump to the latest greatest phone...

Agreed. The phone will be a beast on any 3G+ network. It would be one thing if the voice portion of the phone used 4G network that they would wait. But we know that isn't true. That will still be on the previous CDMA network.

Have some patience buddy it says summer... is it summer no it is not you kinda ruin it for youself everyone is gonna have a really cool phone and your gonna be stuck with an old iphone. Even if your city doesnt have 4G it will eventually inless you live in like middle of nowwhere but still 3G works perfectly fine with this phone...this phone will be hottest phone of the year

I don't get the wait to release because contracts are over argument.
If the phone is released "early" and people want it they' get it.
I think Sprint, I thought it was Palm themselves last year, is trying to compete with the iPhone directly.
This launch won't go over so well if the rumored specs of the new iPhone are close to accurate and if they do announce a VZ iPhone it'll be another "disaster" for Sprint.

Also this new 30 day guaratee is NOT going to help. Buy an Evo to play with for the intent purpose to return it when the iPhone is released.

I like Sprint and am getting this for myself with Android on-board app development is not and issue like for the Pre so if this particular phone does sell well it'l not be a big issue. Just add to the uniqueness of the device.

Yeah, I have little faith in Sprint pulling off sucessflu phone launches of any kind.
