Bye Bye M9

Sorry HTC but I have to say bye to the M9.To me the M9 is still the most beautiful device to launch to date but they failed on so many fronts with this iteration. These are the most prominent issues that led me to return:

Excessive heat - Not saying the m8 doesn't get warm but my experience with the m9 was poor. The m9 would constantly top 102 degrees especially when using the camera.
Poor lowlight camera - This has been said many times, but i'll say this again. The lowlight performance of the camera is HORRIBLE!! ( Even after recommended adjustments from XDA)
Poor Battery - The battery drain is significant. GSM Battery continued to give an average of 3.5 hours of screen on which is not up to standards.
Battery while taking pictures - I would literally drop 3 percent in battery life with just 8 pictures taken in a row and even more drain when in low light. Seems like the processor goes into overdrive when the camera is launched thus causing rapid battery drain.

Everything else about the device was beautiful. Design, Screen and UI was boss.
In the end I think im going to hold off on the newest flagships of 2015 and wait to see what others are offering. I owned an edge as well and didn't see a 800 dollar reason to keep it.
I know there's going to be plenty of the "my M9 doesn't do that crew" but these findings are facts and simply can't be disputed. I love HTC phones but this year's iteration is just not good.

I second this, I just returned my M9 today and will be waiting for my 128 gb s6 to arrive. I have had stuttering in the browser(both chrome and internet), loss of gps, excessive heat and poor battery life. Now I will see if the s6 will be up to par, but that remains to be seen.

Good luck. poor battery life is a 64-bit/lollipop issue
I have yet to find a decent Android browser. They all suck.

Ha! Go over to the S6 forum. Battery drain is even worse, it lags and stutters too.

It seems 2015 has began with a step backwards. These two flagships suck. Battery has gone backwards in particular. I look forward to the Z4.

Right this minute, the M8 seems the best overall package and a bargain.

I will reserve judgement for the s6 once I use it. A pity as I was really looking forward toward 64 bit android flagshapes, but it seems like they are simply failing this year. Will probably just be returning to my lumia 1520 it seems.

I look forward to the Z4.
The Z4 appears to have the same 810 processor, which is not exactly garnering glowing reviews (unless you consider the heat it gives off "glowing"). I'm curious to see how Samsung, HTC, and Google address the complaints of the early adopters to these flagship phones. I'm also curious to see how the LG G4 stacks up. So far, the early press looks impressive.

There was this 90's group called Kriss Kross. They wore all their clothes backwards which made no sense to me then and now. That's how I feel about companies insisting on putting their speakers on the back of the device. Doesn't matter how impressive everything else could be.

Speakers on the back make me wanna jump, jump... Volume buttons on the back make me wanna jump, jump...

Perhaps but the Z4 will probably have a bigger battery anyway. It also has much better speakers which are important to me since I watch a lot of youtube/podcasts on my phone. It will have a good shooter and a light skin.

I don't really like LG phones. The G4 isn't the prettiest looking thing and I'm not a fan of the leather.

As always, the importance of any and all features on a smart phone are completely about user preference. Personally, I find speakers on a cell phone about as useful as Kriss Kross references. ;-)

Thanks for giving me a personal opinion denouncing my personal opinion. How clever...

All I said was, we each place value on different features. You value speakers, I don't. How is that "denouncing your personal opinion"?

I was only talking about having speakers on the back being silly at this point. No one can convince me that is more practical or useful than having front facing ones. Now if you want to summarily dismiss it because you don't care about speakers then that's fair. I actually wouldn't mind the buttons on the back. That leather back looks awful tacky though but that can be changed. Not a fan of their software either. The SOC in the G3 couldn't keep up with the QHD screen and I have my reservations if they use the S810 which I don't think they are. The whole design is a meh to me and the G3 felt cheap in the hand. The camera looks promising though. The screen wasn't as bright so they could improve that as I found it a bit washed out.

Overall, the only thing I would probably enjoy more on the LG than the HTC experience wise would probably be the camera.

I completely agree with you; putting speakers on the back is a poor choice.

I definitely would not get the leather option, as I also think it looks tacky. I believe it's considered an "upgrade". The display is suppose to be superb on the G4. However, we'll see once it hits the streets. Honestly, I have no idea if I'll get one. I'm just curious to see how it stacks up, before locking in on an M9 or S6.

NOTE: I just saw this:

ive said my peace about the s6..returned it too

Went into the local AT&T store to get my hands on the M9 before my contract expires. Played around with it for about 10 minutes. The upside was that the phone was very snappy and responded well. Wasn't so impressed by the dual color exterior. Tried to take some simple pictures inside. Was able to get decent ones without a flash by manipulating the ISO and exposure manually.. automatic settings produced nothing worthwhile wherever I focused. Took about 10 pictures, taking time to review each and changing settings, adding flash, etc.
By that time I noticed the phone was heating up way more than my M7 would, under any circumstances.
I put the phone down and I'll be keeping my M7 and my money.
Coming from a Sprint M7 and having used the M9 since April 2nd, I truly feel that the M9 runs cooler than the M9. Using the same apps that would get the hottest with the M7 I definitely notice it cooler to the touch. Not sure how accurate the battery temp data is, but it agrees with my opinion. I would see the temp occasionally reach 114°, but on the M9, the hottest I have experienced is 112°.
